Any opinion on this cheap espresso machine?

Hi, I was looking for a cheap espresso machine and stumbled on to topbuy site (I know, out of all places) Anyways, it will probably be just chinese made, 2 months life expectacy junk that will leak water everywhere the moment I touch it.
But it just sounds like a good price even for that.
It's $80 for an espresso maker + coffee grinder

Do you think it's worth the risk?
I can't find any reviews because it doesn't even have a brand name…

I have a Breville Cafe Roma which I got for $100 New, on COTD I think. It is renowned for making a good coffee if you get a good one. So far mine is going well and I am very pleased with it. There are a few on Ebay. This one looks good as it has only been used once and has all the gear. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Breville-Cafe-Roma-Espresso-Machine-S… Currently at .99 cents with one bid and 1 day 23 hours to go with $20.00 postage. Could get lucky. :)

I wouldn't take a chance on a cheap unknown brand. You can get parts for the Breville. Springing leaks seems to be their main issues, but some owners have had years of use out of theirs. Check them out on Product reviews: http://www.productreview.com.au/showitem.php?item_id=4024

my brev cafe roma has lasted years of abuse.
i really treat it mean yet it still brings the steam.

there was a deal on here for refurbished models - $89 + postage.
$100 new would be a bargain.
i think they regularly go for $140

  • thanks guy, I'll keep an eye out for it (if I 'm not successful with the auction)

  • Actually mine was that refurbished one was getting confused cos it has a one year guarantee. That and getting older. :)

  • Or you can go to the Breville outlet stores in and redfern or ultimo and pickup one there - you get factory warranty as well

  • Can't say anything about the espresso machine, but that grinder does not look like it is going to cut it. The minimum/cheapest acceptable grinder imo is the Sunbean 0450.

  • lol I think some ozbargainers saw this post and bid on the ebay listing, it's shot upto $60 now. :(

  • Not to worry. At least you aren't buying that original one that would have likely been a big disappointment. Just keep your eyes open. There was one today on my supermarket notice board for $40.00, although it was the black model. Also keep eyes out for the De Longhi EC 155. It's superseded now but it was seen as a fantastic machine. They may come up on eBay or elsewhere from time to time. They sound much less hit and miss than the Breville also. You can read 3 user reviews here. http://www.productreview.com.au/showitem.php?item_id=3970

    • thanks riverman, that delonghi certainly looks like the perfect little machine. I'll keep my eyes open for that one :)
