AmEx Shop Small Wrap-up 2016

Well it was a fantastic month! I've got two American Express credit cards and did my best to maximise my statement credits. $160 back. I got my car washed, bought some red wine and ate a few meals out because of it.

How was your shop small month? Who's got bragging rights on the most credit back?

I got one unexpected cashback, where I had paid with Amex forgetting about shopsmall, which made it my favourite as it was a legitimate bonus.
Other cashbacks were me changing my shopping habits to get the cashback. Good deals, but only the best deal because of the cashback.

This happened to me too! The very first cashback I got, I had forgotten that Shop Small has started. It was a really nice surprise and a good reminder to make use of the promo for the rest of the month.

3 amex for me, 2 for wife
    did 48 out of 50
prolly saved just over 400 with a few surcharges

got 500 bucks on opal between 3 cards lol

    • Pretty sure shop small 'shops' shouldn't have surcharges. Let Amex know and they should credit it back.

      • I did that, and they only gave me a link to report it. No news after.

        • bank issued? Amex issued should be straight up refunded.

        • @tunzafun001: Amex issued :/ They gave me credits for the ones not taking amex, but only gave me a link to report the surcharge.

      • I was charged a surcharge. The cash back only just covered it.

      • depends on the credit card u have, I reported it once on my Qantas no fee one, got no response

wife reported on her platmium she got refunded 10 bucks lolz

We don't have much Shop Small businesses in Adelaide, but I managed to credit $230 from 4 Amex cards. My wife topped up $120 on her CIBO Coffee Card for $60.

    • Ah good idea about CIBO, I'll do that next time.

71 credits from 7 cards - one business refused to accept Amex and Amex made manual credit which didn't count against card. 20 OPAL top-ups and various cafes, shops, etc. I was more organised this year than last when I got 38 credits from 4 cards.

  • I got 45 out of 4 cards between the 3 of us XD

The extra 5 were for the ones who were in the list but didn't take Amex.

At least this year we spent most of the money on necessities, such as groceries, compared to last year when I bought so many Funko Pop :P

Couldn't be bothered to do many opal top up due to bad past experiences.

    • I had 5 occasions also where they were advertised but didn't take amex. I simply wrote to Amex and they credited me $10 back for each one, no evidence needed.

  • Got 9 Amex between miss and me, we have done 92 credits, which 2 credits from refused business. 60 opal top ups. Now we have at least 6 months supply of half price OPAL

  • I need to hand in my Ozbargain badge… 2 cards, 0 credit. I was busy and kinda forgot about it.

24 credits from 3 cards, including 2 manual credits where they didn't take AmEx but were on shop small.

    • Usual cheap toilet paper/tissues etc. at Chemist King x 3
    • Awkward dinners where staff members couldn't work out why we wanted to pay on more cards than there were people dining - especially when already using entertainment book.
    • Tub of Gelati from local
    • Got car serviced as was due anyway and got another $30 off.
    • Making 2 orders from the same pizza place and taking someone with me to get the other order with my other card as store told us last time no split payments.

  • For any of the merchants listed on the map but refused to take AmEx, how did you get your statement credits? I filled out an online form but haven't heard back yet, it's been a couple of days.
