Great. I have been waiting for a long time

    • +1

Can you confirm which version they are selling?

There is new 'improved' version with 25% more battery and better stability according to reviews on Amazon…

I want to find iut whether this is older stock or newer improved version.

      Cheers.

      • Stability?

        • +1

That's what half of Sony's PS3/PSVITA/PSP/PS4 updates say "Improves Stability" and nothing else so I think it's a joke on that

  • +7

Better buy before they run out of stock!

  • +4

I bought this (first model) from Amazon as soon as it released.
I returned it within a week.

I LOVED the official PS3 media remote but this was nowhere near as good - it's made by PDP not Sony.
I couldn't get it to learn and sync with any of my devices.
It provided very little function on the PS4 itself.

Things MAY have changed as this was a long time ago, but I would say please go on Amazon and read reviews first. The feature you are hoping it will achieve may not actually work.

    • +6

They released a version 2, which I bought and returned. It still also provided very little function.

      • +7

Hmmm… I just removed it from my cart.

        Thanks guys, saved me $28 : )

      • +1

Can you identify this model? I wonder this is version 1 or 2?

        • I'd like to know this too. I just purchased one from Target for $42, but didn't realise there are different versions. Grr…

    • +2

Contrary to this, I bought one from Amazon and it's great, initially had some issues with certain apps, but since those apps have updated it's pretty good

    • I have Ps2/ps3/ps4 remotes boxed never opened

Not sure what my obsession is with them

  • "Universal Media Remote", does this mean I can use it for a Sony Bravia TV ?

Is it actual made by Sony?

    • +2

It should. As i have one and it works with my foxtel box and my tv witch is dse

    • +3

Don't buy this if you have a Sony TV, all newer ones can control the PS4 with the TV remote anyway.

      • I can use my Sony TV remote for basic controls while playing blu-rays movies, but there is no button on the TV remote to bring up the pop-up menu. I always have to use the dual-shock controller OPTIONS button for pop-up or title menus.

    • My Sony PSX JP (not PS1) remote works on my Sony 36 inch CRT so I dont see why it wouldn't :)

  • +1

Anyway to stack the stan codes?
Got 3 months from PSN membership and buying a ps4

    • -4

Don't believe so. I've opened about 5 Stan accounts so far to keep using different promo codes. I really like them, but I'm just not willing to pay $10 a month.

      • So you can pause them? Then unpause when one of them runs up?

        • +2

Yeah, I guess that might work. I didn't even think of that!
I've been just creating new accounts whenever a new code comes available, and the last one's expired.

      • What is it that they check when creating a new account?
        email, credit card details etc?

        • +1

Email only. I've used the same credit card every time.
I've actually used the same email every time, by just utilising Gmail's email aliases, to produce different email addresses every time.

        • +1

          @NiteMice:

          Thanks
Tried different emails + gmail aliases and it says can not create for existing customers…

  • Wonder if this is IR or Bluetooth. I have a pissy little $6 knockoff thing from K-Mart in the day and it works a treat, just gotta point it at the dongle though.

    • +1

      It's bluetooth

    • It's bluetooth for the PS4 and then it has IR for your tv and such.

  • Will it support Foxtel Go app?

    • +2

No. But it will support Foxtel Play.

      • Thanks Chingy, bought it today and it worked :)

  • +1

Do you think the remote will work with a Playstation 3?

    • +4

No, you're better off getting the Playstation Universal Remote for the PS3

      • Thanks.

  • I bought it online with pickup at my local store.

    Hopefully it works… Great deal!

  • +1

Damn i just bought a Harmony 650 to replace my Bravia Remote Control.

  • Even the $3.50 shipping cost is very reasonable. I'm surprised they can even ship this thing out for $3.50!

  • +1

Just ordered it. Thanks for posting!

Is the 3 month Stan for new accounts or a code that can extend existing accounts

  • +3

Poor design. No back / return button next to the arrows. Sucks for browsing netflix etc and you want to go back. Have to find shitty little menu buttons near the num-pad. All you need for a media remote is arrows, an enter button and a big back/exit button. What use is there for the number keys?

    • +1

still voted + for the free 3 months stan

  • I think Stan is sold out.

  • Looks like they have increased the shipping too

  • So if people don't like this remote to control the PS4, what is a better solution?

    Thanks.

    • +1

If you have a newish TV you should be able to control it using the TV remote with HDMI-CEC. Works well with my 2013 Panasonic and 2015 Sony. Can also use my Yamaha Receiver remote.

      • +2

I do this with my LG remote but can't turn the PS4 on or off with it which is annoying.

      • +1

        Thanks my remote does.

However I have to start the PlayStation with the remote otherwise it won't work and as mentioned already I can't turn it off with the remote.

        • +1

I use a Harmony remote for my setup and it also turns the PS4 off but not on - I recall reading somewhere that Sony did this for a reason, although for the life of me I don't know why. I also recall that the PS3 was also like that at launch and it took a while for that feature to change…

  • Does this machine even work?? Is it compatible?

  • Just bought via click & collect. The quality is way down when compared to the PS3 remote. How do i activate the free 3 months with stan? It didnt come with any paperwork…

    • +1

Just picked one up click and collect and they give you a flyer with a unique code on it.

    • How long ago did you guy it? Stan seems to have been removed about 3 and a half hours ago according to cala90's comment. (2.5hrs before your comment)

      • Ah it's on a flyer, thats explains why I didn't get it when I brought PS4 slim at Big W & PS4 Media Remote at Eb Games

  • Picked one up during lunch time. Canberra Centre EBGames still has a couple left.

  • The free Stan deal is no longer mentioned on the web page. Have they removed this?

    • IGNORE ABOVE.It shows again now

  • Does this work with apps such as stan or hulu ?

i find that the harmony i have will work for everything except apps like stan and a few others ie hulu
if this alleviates this id be happy

  • Can it just be used as normal universal remote.

  • +4

I bought one of these last week from Target at around $40 and I love it. It uses blue tooth for the PS4 so you have to wake it up again after a while, but it can be used for pretty much all of the video apps I use including media player, netflix, stan and plex. I also use it for navigating around the PS4 menu and the platstation store. It also works well with my Samsung TV and after a minute or so automaticlly tuned in without me needing to do any entering of codes which was great.

In all I recommend this remote. It definitely beats using the controllers!

  • Pro tip: attempt in-store pickup at a store with 1 stock, and there's a good chance they'll actually have no stock and you'll be asked to have it delivered for free. (Without having to visit the store.)

However be willing to visit the store incase they do have the stock.

  • Stan trial is new customers only, so be ready to make a new account if required
