Retrofit LED Philips Master 7w Mr16

Hi everyone,

I have decent sized down lights already installed which are philips fittings which I have never had a problem with.

They are hard wired (no plug bases).

I am looking at doing a retrofit upgrade with the LED Philips Master 7w Mr16 in Cool white.

Currently running 50w halogens.

Firstly, any feed back from someone who has done the retrofit with Philips or other brand (please state).

Good experiences or bad.

Also what is the cheapest price you have seen the lights for ?

Bunnings $20
Ebay $10 (in delivery)

  • They will work great.

Upgraded most of my house with philips stuff and found them very compatible with the various existing transformers vs other led brands.

  • I feel you are better off upgrading with GU10 sockets istead of MR16 because im pretty sure you still need a transformer for the MR16s

  • While you can switch them out, you'll probably be better off switching the transformers as well. Old school transformers are still going to chew power and may not be fully compatible with new mr16 LEDs.

I paid about $35 for new led plus transformers, and I know I didn't get the cheapest as I bought from a well known supplier locally, not ebay.

Having said that, you might need a sparky to fit them though if there is no GPO socket in the roof for DIY.

  • I used a goverment issued REES company - https://yess.net.au/

    They:
Replaced 13 standard globes for LED's (free)
    Replaced 3 x 150 w Flood lights (free)
    Replaced 3 Powerboards
    Replaced the Shower head

I asked about LED downlights (warm white - you might be able to ask for cool white). If it is simply a globe change they are $5 each, if it requires a replacement transformer $10. Work is done by a licensed electrician. So $10 each for globe+transformer+labour..
