Work with the community to complete in-game challenges in The Witcher 3 and GWENT. In The Witcher 3 you will be tasked with reaching the White Orchard Inn. During the GWENT event, you guys will need to beat the streamer!
For every challenge we complete, everyone will get a 300 XP boost in The Monstrous Winter Sale.

When the free games aren't any good to me I intentionally don't make any purchases. Instead I wait for the next sale..
(That's because I never get around to playing stuff anytime soon. Obviously if you want to play it right now you wouldn't wait around forever)
They're not actually free. You have to earn them with a currency you get from buying other games. You don't pay for these games directly, but if you don't have the points you'll either have to buy a bunch of other games to get it, or pay for it.
If you have to earn it it's not free 😏
I actually started off with 3000 XP and it's got a message "You've earned a 3000 XP boost during the monstrous fall sale" - so I'm already at 5100 xp without buying anything.
I'm guessing you bought something previously and the points carried over
Stasis is on my steam wishlist, but I don't know if I fancy buying a bunch of games I mightn't get to for ages to get it for free. Maybe if the Star Wars BYOB is really good value I might, but I doubt it.

I bought Planescape Torment and got enough XP to redeem Shadow Warrior, then picked up Stasis (which I hope lives up to the reviews I read) and ended up with Shadowrun for free as well. Pretty good bundle given all up it cost me ~$15!
Seems like you'll need to buy games in order to earn sufficient XP for a free game.
You can get up to 3500 XP from completing the badges, with the first game earned at 5000 XP.
