Gift Ideas to Go with a Fountain Pen

Hey guys wanted to know your thoughts on a gift to match a fountain pen.
Was thinking a diary for next year but wanted something that could last more than a year. Possibly a nice notebook but not too sure if people use notebooks much (considering the person doesn't really use one for work).

Cheers

How about an A5 leather compendium? I find them easier to manage than the A4 standard compendium size. Also they are able to refill it with new notepads etc…

Fancy fountain pen ink set if it comes with a converter was the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the topic. I guess it wouldn't last over a year though.

  • Pen case? Or stationary case? I like the notebook idea they can user it to draw or write down notes and stuff. I used mine for addresses and phone numbers in high school and now the occasional bank details centre link details tax for number etc

If you really want to make it special maybe find one that can be used as a fridge magnet or something? Always handy to have a place to jot down notes around.

+1 for ink. Pilot's Iroshizuku inks are great, and come in a nice bottle.

If you go for a notebook, I recommend Leuchtterm1917 (like Moleskin but higher quality, and better for fountain pens to write on).

A time machine?, I kid I kid. Maybe some nice paper or like a scroll?

Wax and a seal with the recipient's initials on it. Leather bound notebook or diary as mentioned above is also nice :)

Why a fountain pen in the first place? I'd much prefer a rollerball pen. Anyway, some bookplates?

    Blotting paper and Solvol.

  • liquid paper
    vellum

Is the person left handed ? Because at the beginning, he/she can feel uncomfortable.
If it's a nice and old school fountain pen, how about nibs or a leather case?

I use a fountain pen as my go-to pen, so I would recommend:

    • A nice pen case. Hard is good.
    • A pen/ink stand for a desk. A nice wood one, or antique silver, depending on taste.
    • A blotter

Then it depends on whether you think they'll prefer cartridge or bottle ink. You can get a nice selection of either, I like Pilot, Lamy and Parker inks, but obviously if you go with a proprietary cartridge system then you'll have to take what they sell. For my day-to-day pen, I just use Lamy cartridges because it's less mess.

Also if they are left-handed, make sure you get the right nib. Left-handed underwriters (like me) need a special left-handed (LH) nib, over-writers (hooked hand) use a regular nib.

    • Also if they are left-handed, make sure you get the right nib.

I was left confused for a while, and rightly so.

  • dude, i have the most perfect notebook for you. delivery might take a couple weeks but THEY WILL APPRECIATE IT. let me find the link.

    EDIT: http://tmsprl.com/collections/tm-products/products/inspirati…
each page has a different line design e.g. http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1104/2450/products/Inspirat…
however, the person i bought it for thinks its too cool to taint with her actual writing which is a tad annoying :s
