Travelling Overseas - Need a Notebook to Join Me

Hi All

I'm traveling to Canada for up to 2 years in January, and need a notebook to accompany me. There are 2 scenarios I'm trying to decide between.
I need to be able to download/stream at least 720p content, spotify, & at least medium scale Photoshop work. I am considering purchasing a low-end under $400 notebook just to do the bare essentials (no photoshop), then purchase a $1k+ notebook once I've moved out of a Hostel and feel more secure.
I am fearful that these cheap notebooks wont have the processor speed & ram for me to multi task.

Otherwise, I could purchase something in the $800-$1000 range that will be able to meet my Photoshop demands. I'm weary of carrying around on the move anything at a higher value. I've seen the below go for $850.

Any suggestions either way; a sub $400 strong enough Notebook, or a $800-$900 fairly powerful notebook? If I go with the more expensive option, I would like an IPS panel or something with good viewing angles. The Dell I've linked has good viewing angles; likely because it's also a tablet.

Thank you kindly!

  • I prefer to buy at Canada because of the warranty.

  • I'd buy it in Canada, warranty and all that junk to consider especially when you're there for two years.

I often carry two laptops, one I actually use for work and the other is more for demo/epenis/showing off. All up around $7k worth but then I don't stay at hostels.

  • Buy here and get the GST off maybe?

  • Agree with knick007 The Good Guys are having 20% off on eBay. Get a further 10% off via TRS (download the app from their website for a quicker refund at the airport).
