Harvey Norman Blockout Deals Galaxy S7 $897, Fitbit Alta $97, Hoppers Crossing Vic

20

Hey all,

Harvey Norman seems to have some pretty good deals when I went browsing yesterday. Fitbit altas were 198 down to 97 I believe.

The Samsung galaxy s7 down to $897

There were overear headphones for $48 from $98 as well if I recall correctly.

There were a lot of reduced games too

Some of the deals are online, but there were a lot of reduced items in store.

Sorry I could only remember those ones.

The Alta has been sneaking down over the last week or so. That first drop to $99, then $98, now $97. I'm happy with my Flex at the moment, but temptation…. I wonder if I can get an OW price match.

They were $79 at rebel sport yesterday

      • They email I received said the 20% off excluded already discounted lines.

        • I must've got lucky then. Still with the Amex cash back, it's still $79 at rebel

      • Lucky! Rebel Belconnen wouldn't drop them further than $99

Problem is will they allow paying via amex! Lolol

    • Spend $50 or more, get $20 back at Rebel sports still active. Ge them to price beat it by 10%. Add something else so that total is $100/ Split bill on 2 registered amex cards and you'll end up with a very sweet deal

  • Lucky for anyone still has 3 AMEX HN offer unused. Local S7 for $597 is pretty good.

    • HN allow split payment ?

      • I've been able to do it every time I used the AMEX deals without any questions.

      • They do.

But AMEX requires signature. I wasn't able to use PIN.

So if your supps are in other people's names, you need to reproduce the signatures on those cards, or get them to go with you.

In my case, I had to produce 3 different signatures. This did not occur as suspicious to the girl who served me, but if I was at the register, it definitely would have struck me as suspicious and I would have asked for ID. I don't know if it's legal to use someone else's credit card even if they are supps to yours.

You'll probably get away with it like I did, but yeah PIN would have been so much easier.

        • I just had a look at the terms of the HN AMEX offer (I'm registered for it), and it says:

"Offer is limited to one credit per registered Card. Only spend on the Card number you register counts towards the Offer."

Are you guys talking about having the offer registered on three separate AMEX cards / accounts? Or is there some way of double dipping it with a supplementary (but essentially duplicate) card?

        • @sparkanum: Yes. Get supplementary cards. They can get the offer too.

        • @lostn: Doesn't make sense to me that a supplementary card (which has all the same numbers and account details as the primary) would be recognised as a separate card from a system's perspective when applying this offer. I don't think I've ever seen it working with other AMEX offers (e.g. shop small).

Did you have to have two AMEX Connect accounts for this to work? And then sign up each account separately? Or would me having saved the offer to my card been enough to activate it for both primary and supplementary?

        • @sparkanum: Supp cards do not have the same number. But are linked to the primary card.

Shop small worked on supp cards. All offers do.

I do not have any AMEX connect accounts. I either manually enroll, or save the offer from AMEX website.

Each card needs to enroll separately.

        • @lostn: I think this is where my confusion is. You have an Amex issued card?

Amex cards issued by the big 4 are different. The supps have the same details as the primary, all bar the name on the card. Which means you can't use them to register on Amex connect as a separate account. You can't use the main website for a big 4 issued card, either, hence the Amex connect bit.

Ahhh well. Maybe I'll just wait for the s7 price to drop a bit further, haha.

        • @sparkanum:

Mine is AMEX issued yes. I recommend you go for that. They are superior to bank issued, and you can get ones with no annual fee. Also many AMEX offers are exclusive to AMEX issued cards.

  • Folks, anybody in Melb who's interested in this and doesn't have the AMEX offers feel free to PM me. I might be able to help.

    • Pm sent

    • You keep the cashback ?

Say you're looking to buy something that's $300, and don't have access to the AMEX offer. I've got the offers and I'm not using them, so using my card you pay me $200 and I'll be charged $300-$100 = $200.

  • Pretty weird seeing HN on here since DS closed and there's a lack of competition…

    • They are here because of the generous AMEX offer.

  • The Good Guys sales looks to have the Galaxy S7 (cheaper $799) or Galaxy S7 Edge ($879.2) C&C.

    • True also for the TVs I looked at. Good Guys always cheaper!

      • Congratulations on 10 years as an OzBargainer.

  • Is $218 (down from $318 considering $100 AMEX offer) a good price for Apple iPad mini 2 Wi-Fi 32GB? On the one hand it is a 2013 tablet, on the other hand I need it mostly for browsing, reading and watching movies, should be more than enough.

    • It will serve but gets laggy.

Also has 1GB ram which causes tabs to need refreshing when you switch to them.

    • +1

Just be careful; the AMEX offer terms exclude Apple:

"Excludes purchases of Miele, Falcon, NEFF, AEG, Gaggenau, ASKO, St George, Fagor, De Detrich, Elica & Apple products."
      (from the AMEX Offers website)

      • Says that, but it will still work. Even Gift cards will work, but HN staff are clued in and have a sign saying they won't work with AMEX promo. But you could try telling them you're not enrolled in the promo…

  • Fire Sale on the Galaxy S7

    • You think so? $897 is way higher than the lowest it's been, which would be in the ~$650 to $700 range for AU stock.

The only way I would consider paying $897 for this phone is if I had 3x AMEX $100 credits.

      • Should I have said flame sale? Doesn't samsung burst into flames spontaneously?
