Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro Prime Battery Drain

Got this phone in September. It was fine at first but lately battery cannot even last 24 hours on standby and it often heats up doing nothing or just charging. I was in Hong Kong last week and it could last 3-4 days on standby but after I got back to Melbourne, battery drain is worse than ever. It is the same firmware in Hong Kong and Melbourne so is it the network/frequency? Anyone else experiencing similar problem?

  • Did you get the one with band 28, maybe it's searching for better reception with it lacking a frequency it wants.

    • No I don't think it has band 28 but I got it through ozbargain with lots of other people so just wondering if it's a common issue.

Try updating firmware (or changing the ROM). The first small update I received after purchasing the phone started to drain battery faster & phone getting hotter than usual, within a few days a big (800-900mb) firmware update came through which fixed all issues. Hope it helps.

    • Ok, I will try doing that. Thanks.

  • I also had similar experience like dan0909. Try updating firmware.
I also had issue with YouTube which was crashing all the time after first update. I reinstalled it and after second software update it was fixed. Xiaomi phones works on hit and trial method and bit of luck.

Sounds like a malfunctioning app. Is there anything specific draining battery?
Battery stats are pretty decent on Android.
If it's not a malfunctioning app, it could be some malfunctioning hardware!

    • Most of the battery use is by Android System and Android. But I don't get why it was fine in HK a week ago and now it's draining crazy.

      • Google Services Update borked maybe?

I presume you have restarted it?

Your final thing to do is to do a Factory Reset.

  • You could try rebooting the phone. Sometimes the system malfunctions (like bluetooth/radio/etc) and grabs a wakelock and doesn't remove it, a reboot resolves it until it happens again. I have this happen on my Redmi Note 2 and Mi 4 around once every few weeks (with recent firmware).
