Looking to Purchase a New 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander LS Safety Pack ZK Auto 4WD MY17

Hi OzBargainers,

I am looking to purchase a new 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander LS Safety Pack ZK Auto 4WD MY17.

Redbook website (http://www.redbook.com.au/cars/research/new/details/2016-mit…) price guide is $40,038 driveaway.

Mitsubishi website (https://www.mitsubishi-motors.com.au/shopping-tools/pricing/…) quoted $38,990 driveaway.

My budget is approx. $36,000 +/-, however it will be great if I don’t have to spend the entire budgeted amount. The car will most like be purchase out right with cash and no trade in. My location is in Melbourne, Victoria.

The accessories I am aiming for are rear roof spoiler ($488.40), rear bumper protector ($139.70), floor mats ($116.93) and windows tinting (price not listed as part of the optional accessorises Mitsubishi webpage)

Mitsubishi website with inclusion of the accessories listed above (https://www.mitsubishi-motors.com.au/shopping-tools/pricing/…) quote is $39,735.

I have rang a couple of stores and $36,000 (without the accessories listed above) is the absolute best they can do. Before I actually visit the dealer, can anyone who have purchase this make, model and similar spec advised on what reasonable price range I should target for?

What’s a reasonable price for windows tinting done externally and where? Is it better to have it done by the dealer as part of a package deal?

Many thanks. Looking forward to some constructive feedback.

  • $40K buys you an Exceed, why the hell would you spend $40k on the LS?!

From a quick look, MY16 vs MY17 is the CarPlay support, and what else?

Bear in mind, resale on these plummets

And do you need the 4WD? Coz the 2WD starts at $30k…

    • The reason I pick 4WD is because it is the only option which comes with 7 seats and 2.4L engine. Reviews for this vehicle would suggest the 2L engine is rather sluggish. I am also hoping the accessories will be thrown in for free depending on the sales rep I will be dealing with. I might be wishful thinking but one can only hope that luck is on my side when the day comes. Therefore I am limiting my expenditure to $36k at this time which will get me the car without the accessories (subject to negotiation & luck with the sales rep).

      • If it was me, I'd still look at the MY16 Exceed.

LED headlights, sun roof, full leather, Electric tailgate, keyless start. Only looks to lose out on the Apple CarPlay that the MY17 models get.

Also gets the Exceed badge, which is a major plus on resale

        • Thanks for your advice. I shall consider exceed badge. Resale value is a minor importance as I intend to run the car till its 'end of life'.

All well and good, but I don't think anyone who buys a brand new car these days has plans of owning it beyond 200,000kms. People get bored, cars get tired.

  • I dont know about the specific car, but I can tell you I got my SUV tinted at Tint-a-Car for $398. The dealer was quoting me $1000+ so I just got it done outside. They have a few stores around Melbourne, and I just popped in for a couple hours and it was done. Very painless procedure for me.

    • Tint-a-car have the following options - Octane Darkest Legal, Formula One, Bolle & Bolle Clear, Midnight Express and etc. For $398, which did you go for? Is the workmanship good? Did you have to negotiate for $398 or is it a fixed price?

      • Sorry, I forgot to check this. It was the quoted price over the phone, I didnt haggle at all. They allowed me any choice of their tints. I just went with the octane I think, darkest legal.
