WiFi range enhancer

Hi all
I was wondering if someone can recommend a WiFi range improvement gadget. I have seen little devices that you can plug into three wall that enhance the signal strength. Which one is the one to buy? Not looking to spend a lot of money but happy to pay a bit extra for a good device.
Cheers for your input

Xiaomi wifi+ is cheap, low powered and lots of range

What device is handling Wifi at the moment? You may be better off buying a better router device rather than a range extender.

You might be right. It's the free one given by belong when they set us up

  • I've never had much luck with dedicated range extenders but have found the ethernet over power line devices to work quite well. Basically they use your homes electrical wiring to extend your signal. Or yeah, a better router might do the trick too.

    • Yes, powerline adapters work great for me. I use them to have wifi in my garage. Fast and reliable.

I use this TP-Link set from Kogan:

      • heh, yeah that's my go-to kit. :)
The only I can't get it do is share printer access, so if I have a printer connected to the main router I can't seem to access that printer from a device connected to the extender. But for simple internet access it works great. (Maybe it's me?)

  • Good article: http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-wi-fi-extender/ (very popular topic, if you Google "best wifi extender 2016" you get many reviews). They say: "After spending 140 total hours researching Wi-Fi extenders and testing more than 20 over the past year and a half, we’ve decided that the RE450 is our new recommendation for most people". TP-Link RE450 is around $100.

  • You really need to provide more information such as your setup, home layout and what problems you are having before proper advice can be given. Just adding a range extender could make your wifi worse.

    I bought this one:

Works well and wasn't too difficult to set up.

Receives on 2.4GHz and transmits on 5GHz (or vice versa). Can also just extend both but speed
    will be slightly slower.

I bought this one: Netgear EX2700 N300 300Mbps 2.4Ghz Wireless Range Extender WiFi Booster

That's pretty cheap, but easy to set up and my front part of the house now has wifi. I had issue with my router located at the back of the house (which I can't move due to socket position and I was not willing to have cables going all the way to better position). I put this wifi extender in the middle of the house and now we have good connection throughout the house (both stories).
