Best Android Mobile Phone with a Great Camera

Looking to upgrade wifes Galaxy S2 to something primarily with a great camera.

We would prefer to buy outright.

No budget but am prepared to pay for a decent phone that meets the requirements - but cheaper is better of course!

Current phone is only used for calling, texting, facebooking and internet.

Thanks.

Okay, so, ex Note 7 user here. The camera on the Note 7 was amazing. It is, however, the same camera that's in the S7 range. So im going to suggest the S7 (edge or not). That said, check out the Pixel - which is what I went to after taking the Note 7 back. It's camera is also amazing…AND- the Pixel has bonus free, unlimited, original-quality backup to Google Photos as well. Which is a HUGE plus from my perspective.

    • Thanks. Interesting regarding the unlimited backup offer from Pixel. Will keep that in mind but not sure for us that warrants the extra premium cost as we backup to Dropbox (granted its not unlimited but I do move photos uploaded to a other storage solutions).

      • Google Photos is far superior to Dropbox's photo backup solution in pretty much every way - I strongly suggest you check it out. The app is extremely powerful, with automated keyword and location search, and very well integrated with other aspects of Android and even works very well on iOS.

Regardless of which phone you use, it's it's easily the best photo view/store solution currently available. When combined with the Pixel's unlimited image storage, it's a no-brainer.

  • Sony XZ saying their camera is better than others, so does everyone else :)

    • Whats the battery life like? My quick googling on this shows that its not that good.

      • Sorry, can't help you there, I got X Pro, everyone says it overheating slow and easy to break, I haven't had any of those issues yet.

But technical reviews says its a good phone and I liked its features (dedicated camera button and finger print scanner on the power button, so you can unlock the phone while you holding it).

Its too hard to compare phone based on user review, there is always a bad apple :)

Apparently XZ camera is way better.
So the google tells you phone or the camera not that good?

        • Google says overall its a good phone but is let down by its battery and high price when compared to other phones.

    What is your budget?
S7 probably is the best if your budget $800.

    • Prepared to pay a premium price, but as we all do I prefer the price as low as possible :) S7 prices is definitely attractive.

But the camera on it with its fast autofocus look pretty amazing.

  • Used to own a Sony Xperia Z1 and the camera was great. Left me with the impression of great camera with flagship Sony mobile phone.

  • The S7 has a phenomenal camera. My friend posted his holiday pics and I thought he'd used a proper camera. You can also get them pretty cheap now, about 650$.

The Pixel claims to have the "best camera" on the DXOmark test and by all accounts it is fantastic, but the S7 is still very good and far cheaper at this stage. Pixel will get better software update support, S7 has better button layout, other than that they're pretty comparable.

  • Google Pixel is what you need, amazing camera plus the bonus of clean stock Android and regular updates.

    Give Samsung a miss.

  • Thanks for the comments.

If I went the Pixel route, then my choices will be from Telstra, JBHifi or Google, which means there is not much of a price difference.

But if I went with the S7, whats the best place to buy outright? Would prefer local for warranty issues but where savings are substantial will buy grey.

Mobileciti if you want cheap local stock of the S7.

For the best value phone with a great camera, I'd recommend the Nexus 6P. It's still among the top cameras available, and you can pick one up for $450 easily. Battery life and general performance is still among the best too.
