Prepaid Visa Or Mastercard That Allows Recurring Payments?

I was thinking of getting some kind of prepaid Visa/Mastercard. But the Coles prepaid Mastercard PDS states you cannot use it to setup direct debits or make regular recurring payments. I want to pay an overseas site once every six months, but don't want to provide 'real' credit card details in case they're hacked.

Where can I get a prepaid Visa/Mastercard type card to pay them once every six months?

  • You can probably use the Coles prepaid card - you wouldn't be setting up a direct debt - they would just be keeping your card details on file and using them every 6 months.

  • I was also confused when I got a card the said "no direct debits", but this isn't the same as just keeping the card on file and charging you regularly. It's like when you set up a direct debit for you gas bill to your bank account, but to a credit card. Weird!

    • Well, I'm more confused than you, because you just described what I understand as direct debit, lol. (Not your fault - THEIRS.) ;-) Can someone make clearer sense of this?

i.e. The reason I'm considering one is, I want to use it to pay for services like alldebrid/real-debrid that charge once every 180 days. I can get single-use visa card. But that costs $5, and I'm a cheapskate!

  • Some businesses don't let you set up reoccurring payments with pre paid

  • Just phoned Coles… He spoke to the fraud dept. for several minutes. He said it will probably be detected on the first transaction - the card blocked - and I'd lose the balance. Oh well.

  • Oh - and they have no list of the sites they block that you can check. Nice money maker for Coles there.

  • Just get a Citibank Plus Visa (Debit Card), will also avoid international conversion fee. (And also other fees and charges pre paid cards have)
