Can I trust Vaya, When Buying a Phone?

Hi guys,

I'm planning on buying a new phone. When i was searching, i found this site, https://shop.vaya.net.au/collections/phones, have pretty good prices, but I am not sure whether I can trust Vaya?

I asked them through their online chat on warranty, they said the following.

"Warranty is with us, not the manufacturer as what we have are international stock. We have a repair centre at North Sydney for this purpose, just in case the mobile needs fixing in the future. Warranty is 12 months, Australian based. For Apple products though, since they recognise international warranty, warranty is still with them, Apple.

Assessment Guarantee: within 48 hours of receipt, generally 24 hours or less.
Repair Guarantee: within 30 working days of receipt, generally less than 7 days,

and replacement phone offered if unable to repair within guaranteed time-frame."

They also said they don't have a physical store anywhere in Australia and they are just an online store.

Are they a trusted seller? Has anyone bought any mobiles with them? have any experience on warranty claims with them?

Thanks

  • This is simply my opinion.

They are a known business. However, I wouldn't trust them and would never sign up to a contract with them. It's hard enough trying to get them to rectify/correct billing issues on non-contract plans.. I'd hate to be stuck with them for 12 or 24 months.

  • I've been researching Vaya's mobile plans. They have a terrible reputation in the whirlpool threads I've read. Call centre yelling at customers, lying about policies to try and avoid their responsibilities and fob people off until they give up, hitting people with payment-rejected fees when they had plenty of money in their account… certainly not where I'd feel comfortable buying something if they are the same business (if I had possible future warranty issues in mind).

  • Vaya was bought by Amaysim early this year. Those horror stories are from the previous management. It may take some time to shake off their bad reputation.

    • Yeah, I've been with them for quite a while now, they are generally pretty good. When you need help don't phone them but use their "live chat" had some recent issues with my plan which were sorted out quit painlessly.

      • Yes, I've been with them for ~4 months. On a- pay for 12 months, unlimited calls , 1gb data- plan $12 a month on average. No hassles yet.

        • Thanks Guys! Looks like they are improving after Amaysim takeover. But i am not thinking about joining any mobile plans. Just wanted to buy an outright mobile from them, so worried only about the mobile quality & warranty services. Any idea if Amaysim is good on that front (outright mobiles) and the service related to warranty? so i may expect the same from Vaya!

        • @mdy21: Maybe you could edit the title or make another post to ask if anybody's had problems with Amaysim's mobile phone shop?

        • @greenpossum: Thanks @greenpossum* I just created a new post to ask for advice on smartphones in the range 200 to 400 aud as i need one within 4 to 5 days for my partner. I just need to know good shops to buy one within this short span of time! May create another post for amaysim as well!

  • Thanks @Xiongmao & @GregMonarch. Looks like its a bad idea even if i want to buy an outright phone (network unlocked) when keeping warranty in mind!

  • Should buy from Kogan if available instead, I've used Vaya in the past and they're full of trash indian customer support people.

    • both are grey import, I think should go for the lower price one.

  • Their price is very compatible but their feedback a quiet bed.

Very worry to buy from this mob.

  • phones sold by vaya ate grey market stock.
it might be better buying ones fromajory retailers. you can tell be the A-tick symbol on the box and on the handset.

  • I have been with Vaya for about 4 years. Have not had a problem with them. Support is also good and quick! Support is much better than Optus!
