Sony 55" TV LCD Panel Has Become Bent/Warped - Model KD55X8500C

I've had the tv for about 13 months now (1 month out of manuacturer warranty). I've just noticed that the top-left hand corner of the tv bends forwards somewhat, therefore not aligned with the rest of the panel.

It's my first reasonably large LCD tv. Has anyone else had this experience with large screen thin-panel tvs before?

I'm pretty sure it was not like this when I bought it, so somehow it probably has developed over time. I'm worried it may get worse.

Now the tv appears to work fine at the moment. The problem being is when it is wall mounted it is quite noticeable that the panel is not straight.

I'm considering to claim the consumer guarantee under Australian Consumer Law since the tv is just out of manufacturer warranty.

Is there anyone that can give me tips on how to approach this? I bought it from a licensed Sony reseller, can I approach Sony directly or does the guarantee under ACL only apply to the retailer?

Cheers for any feedback.

  • I have the same tv mine is not wall mounted I bought it around the same time late last year mine doesnt have a bend in it but it sometimes reboots for no reason if I had my time over again I wouldnt buy this particulartv I bought mine from sony directly on sale
    good luck

    • Have you updated it? There have been ~5+ updates since the TV was released which help greatly with overall stability. Originally, it would occasionally freeze up but rarely reboot.

  • Did you get it from either of the "Sony Box Damaged Sales"

    • No, it was brand new undamaged sale.
