What to Do about Front Tap Installed Next to Front Door?

Hi fellow Ozbargainers
Looking for some thoughts. My dad has just taken ownership of a new unit in a block of 5. The plumber forgot to install a tap at the front during the building phase. After discussion with the builder it was decided to move the tap to the back.

The plumber has now installed the front tap against the brick right next to the front door. The pipe comes up from the ground along the brick with the tap fastened to the brick wall with a couple of screws.

As you can imagine, this make the whole place now look unsightly. All the other units have the front tap installed away from the front door with the tap protruding out of the brick work (ie no pipe visible against the wall).

He has kicked up a fuss and the plumber says can't do anything because the wall are double brick and that it will now cost $150 to move it across the drive way along the fence or $500 to move to the back as was originally discussed with the builder.

I'm thinking there must be some sort of argument to have the costs passed back to the builder or plumber. Not fussed whether across the driveway or the back but I'm sure there must be some sort of danger to have it right next to the front door.

Any feedback or suggestions welcomed.

What is it with the recent flood of people complaining on Ozbargain about where their water taps are?

Topics are like that… Give it a few weeks, and tap related issues will slow to a trickle.

Only $150 for a plumber to move a tap to the other side of a driveway?

Post that as a bargain, mate…
