The Great My Republic Debacle

What are everyone's experiences with My Republic so far? There is a Whirlpool forum but thought I'd bring it over here.

  • Must have been living under a rock..
    What happened?

    • Most of the people you talk to when calling have no idea what is going on, no proper training it seems. Just been thrown into the deep end. They are nice but doesn't help…

From what I've gathered it works like this:

      1. Details are sent to Optus to provision the account.
      2. Details are sent back to My Republic and they finish the sign up process.
      3. Serial number of modem sent is added to account so modem can get a DHCP address.

Step three is my current problem… I have had to cancel my order twice due to problems on their side.

Funny thing is, they have sent me three modems now… Even though I have asked them not to ship it.

Usually wouldn't care, but they cancelled my other NBN service and now I have no internet at all.

      • 3 FREE modums? If so great deal, just keep order then repeat.

        • $1 modems ;).

          Yea will probably sell them.

        • +2

@apptrack:What are you having for dinner?

        • @altomic: Sorry no netflix and chill, don't have internet.

    • As I understand it there's a up to 3 week waiting period for provisioning (which is made clear to people on the site) but they nonetheless have a fit when they're internet is shut off because they expected a 48 hour waiting period after not reading things.

Also apparently the staff are useless and there's only 30 people working on connecting people which doesn't seem like many.

      Good times!

    • I feel like I've been living under a rock,
due an Outage in midst of our Contract

So far, mit's been OVER A WEEK ALREADY
& we're STILL WAITING for "OUTAGE" to end!

Our Mobile data won't last forever!

SHOULD WE ALL LODGE TIO COMPLAINTS
to get MyRepublic off their tushies? or what?

      We've been in a longer Contract fr 2018 &,

      a week ago,… BAM!… 'had our 1st Outage.

They say it could be RAIN. filling NBN-box(!)
(altho we've Not had That much rain here)
but Ticket # eMail's Subj shows "Optus" &
      not synching

New modem crawls from Ingram Micro
(got it Yesterday). It didn't solve the issue

No response from Josch (tech support),
after several form-eMails: "We're working on it"

Now, I read of issues with Optus…

Earlier, we were told to specify "Telstra Sydney"
when doing SpeedTests (should ,I from this,
assume they once bought Data from Telstra?
      rather than Optus)

In recent call they named a Data provider
      (other than Optus).

Looks like we are waiting for Optus to provision
our EXISTING service, just to End the Outage!

Who knows why Fixing an Outage should take
      SOOOOO LONG!

Also, yesterday, we rec'd an interesting Offer:

      • Pay for 12 mon's UP-FRONT, Get 2 mon. Free

(For us: Pay $840 to save $140, in round no.'s)

We have until end of June to decide…

What if its Optus issues "take MyRepublic down"
before of the 14 mon. period? Would we lose $$?

Are there any hints of financial issues w/ the Co.?
      Eg, How's their cash-flow?

Are their current Prices considered competitive?

Is this an Offer others have rec'd? [after Outages]

      • I sure Hope that Fixing our Outage
isn't lost in the New Orders queue,
        waiting for Optus…

        • Oops is! 'just noticed: This is a very old Thread…

  • I got connected yesterday. So far so good, speeds seem to be variable but averaging around 70mbps down and 35mbps up. Yes the wait time is ridiculous especially when you already have nbn and it should be a simple switch flick for port 2. But you can't fault the price for what you get.

Imo should be official isp of any self respecting ozbargainer

Edit: I didn't ask them to churn me, simply because I knew they would do something stupid like cutting off my old connection days before the new one was active. Glad I did after hearing about so many people getting disconnected prematurely

    • what are your pings like?

    • You dont happen to have a spare PS4 Pro code do you?

      • No, do you?

        • No. I am thinking about cancellinjg my iiNet and chanign to My republic though.

  • got connected today after waiting 12 business days (signed up 1st Dec). speed is great, spoke to James, told me how to connect and activate service, absoloute gun.
averaging 35 Mbps d/l, 17 ms ping, in melb

  • Just received an email from MR with an offer of 2 months free by pre-paying 12 months of service. Could be a good deal? https://myrepublic.net/au/pre-pay/
