I lost my entire wallet today and in the progress in getting everything in order. Cards are established already, all left are the Medicare card + drivers license.
Does anyone know if I can use a photo copy of my drivers license if a cop pulls me over? Also does RTA provide another card or it has be paid? Or they can print a temp paper version?
But would I have to pay or its free replacement?
Also if I were to do this I would have to wait till Monday since nothing is open till then, hope a colour copy of my license it sufficient for the police breath test on the weekends.
You have to pay. When I lost mine, it was $24. Probably more now. Some service centres are open Sat, e.g. the one in Chatswood Westfield.
I didn't actually lose mine that time. I scanned it and forgot I left it in the scanner and found it only after I had paid for a replacement. Stupid me.
Here in Victoria, I was informed by a cop a few months ago that if you're over 26, not on your P's, and don't have any restrictions on your license, then you are not legally required to have your license on you while driving. Seemed odd to me, and I haven't bothered to follow it up/check if it's true, but I see no reason why the cop would tell me this if it wasn't true.
So it might be worth confirming whether you actually are required to have your license on you, at all.

Just found a copy of license in my email, read some threads on whirlpool, seems as long u can prove who u are and Matches the cops data on their iPad should be ok?
Don't stress over it. It's not the end of the world if a cop pulls you over and you don't have your licence with you. Just explain it's been lost and you're getting it replaced and everything will be fine.
Yeah, it depends on the cop and whether they believe your story - maybe make a report on the NSW police assistance line so that at least you have a reference number if your pulled over and they don't believe your story. Otherwise, in NSW it is an offence to drive without carrying your licence
So guess giving him the copy is fine for time being?

You can get a replacement licence on the spot just visit Services NSW and make sure you got 100 points ID
