Advice with New TV and Sound Setup

Hi everyone,

I've recently purchased a new house and had to compromise a bit, missing out on a dedicated theatre room.
I've decided that I will just be using the family area for my movie nights instead.

See the picture of my floor plan below:

I really want to go for the sound bar option, mainly because the house is a double story and getting the wiring done now for surround sound would be a bit of a pain for me and due to some overhead cabinets it won't look the best either.

I am looking at the following TV and sound bar for the room pictured. Any advice would be appreciated.

Whatever you do, with that setup, make sure the tv is viewable when in the kitchen

Oh and theatre rooms are a bit of wank imo. Just watch TV in the regular lounge room, and have a big screen in there. No need to shut yourself off in a totally different room

  • Unfortunately due to floor to ceiling cabinetry being on the far left of the room (which is too expensive to just take down), it would be need to be mounted on the wall that's against the powder door.

    • That's weird, I don't know why that wasn't worked out before the cupboards went up. Usually room layouts are worked out before that. That now also means you'll have a window on the other side of the tv, increasing glare. You'll also likely have a couch infront of the window to view the tv.

Very weird this wasn't worked out before.

  • House had cabinets put up about 6 years ago with a provision for a TV with maximum size of 42 inch. Th cabinets are too nice and useful to pull down so it's easier to relocate to the other wall.
Only concern is the powder room being behind the wall might make it a bit hard as there will be water pipes running through. I would need to confirm with a plumber and electrician though.

  • An electrician friend of mine showed me a set of in-roof speakers. they basically just sit on the ceiling inside the roof. The sound is awesome. If you can get a cable into the roof then maybe give those a go. They are not cheap though, he mentioned that he could get them at trade prices for a little under a grand. To be clear - they are not in wall or in ceiling where you see them, or covered over with wallpaper etc. They sit in the roof and use the ceiling to create the sound. You don't know they are there until they make a noise. They are Small portable ugly little boxes that you just place inside the roof cavity.

  • I don't have roof space access unfortunately. Sound bar is the way to go for my layout I think.
