Help with Electricity Providers. NSW

Hi all,

First time renter this week, been looking for an electricity and gas provider !

Currently confused in regards to how it works and all, Dodo seems to be ok with 20% both gas and elec if payed on time.

2173 Holsworthy nsw is where the property is.

Tia.

The % off means nothing. Look at the rates, and the daily supply charge. Some companies without discounts are cheaper than others with..

That said, I always thought Dodo was pretty good.

agree. they can mark up double and give 40% disc

    • Figured that too, the way companies charge the rates can vary and really confused me lol.

Will have to give it another look over tonight.

So you guys think dodo isn't too bad in terms of rates ?

The one advantage that you have is there are only a few actual suppliers, and then loads of providers. What i mean is that the majority of the providers (Dodo, AGL, Energy Australia etc) will charge you on a similar structure so you just have to compare the % discount. Not always true unfortunately…

…as a result I put together a little spreadsheet where you could punch in the c/kWh and then the different brackets, along with estimated usage and it told you who was cheaper. Because exactly the same problem, they ring you up and spruik the saving based on a random scenario but inevitably you're getting screwed still haha

Happy to flick you a copy if you like?

I'm with Dodo by the way, they were cheaper by a small amount but their brackets are worse if you use a lot of power (i.e big family)

always look at supply charges vs usage charges as well.

For me i try to get supply charge as low as possible as my usage is minimal - (i'm willing to pay higher usage charges if the supply charge is lower.)

Use this as a guide then do more research comparing rates as other posters said

    • Thanks for the replies everyone.

I think I'll go with what I can figure is best for me, and possibly change up in the future because I'm not too sure in regards to things like amount of energy that will be used.

If dodo is decent for a couple (low power usage i guess) I'll compare the daily and usage rates to those with similar discounts.
