Cracked the Screen of my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge

Hi all,

Never cracked a screen before, but managed to do it on my most expensive phone. I blame a poorly designed cover that didn't protect the edges. For those that are curious, I missed the pocket of my jeans, and the phone fell straight down and landed on the EDGE.

It functions perfectly fine. Purely cosmetic, however now that there is a hole in my phone, I imagine it would make it…un-water resistant.

The water resistant capacity of this phone was an awesome tool for me. Can people please suggest what to do?

Get screen replaced? Where from and how much? I bought the phone sealed, Aus Stock, but off Gumtree, without Receipt. I checked with Samsung prior to purchase, that the phone is legit Aus Stock.

Is it worth fixing, or should I just live with the broken screen? (FWIW, it's been broken for 2 months now…and as I type this, i'm slowly realizing that I don't actually benefit hugely from the Water Resistant capabilities lol.

Worth fixing? $$$? Location? I'm in Sydney.

Thanks :)

  • Buy lifeproof case, your phone will be waterproof again.

    • I think that those cases rely on the phone's own design for water resistance and just adds to the amount of production, but a cracked screen wouldn't form a good seal

      • yeah, have to buy somthing similar to the glad resealable lunch bags

  • Home contents insurance sometimes covers

  • I personally have the s6 edge + and got the otterbox symmetry case. It has a 'lip' around the edges. Saved my phone a few times.

Considering it's not bothering you….why fix it? Everything still works, you can tf/cast to your tv/computer for your pics, etc.

  • I've had a hairline crack running up the curved edge for an inch or so on one side for the last few months, my phone had a dunk in a glass of water recently and suprisingly it emerged unscathed. If you have a hole in your screen you might not be so lucky, but the cost of replacing the screen is just too high imo.

Sounds like the concrete on the ground mysteriously jumped up and smashed your phone. LOL!

  • my daughter dropped her S7 and the screen now has a few cracks in it. The quote for repair is about $350 because of the cost of the parts.

  • The design on the S7 edge is not great for resilience. Work out whether you want to repair it or put the money towards another phone now or when the S8 released in February.

  • thought about getting an OEM replacement screen and fixing it yourself?
i've fixed a few screens before… it isn't hard, just requires a hairdryer/heatgun and patience. glue softens up and comes off readily.*

*of the samsung models i've had

then get yourself a good screenprotector :s

EDIT: nope, my apologies it seems that the LCD is fused to the digitiser

  • How did u go with this? I have the same issue.

    • Still havent fixed it. Not worth it.

A mobile repair shop quoted me $450

      • Have you seen this?

        • Wow, intersting - Thanks!

*actually, I do remember seeing this once before - someone else posted it!

@unistudent1: In other news, I have just upgraded mine to Nougat. And boy, is it lovely!

        • @albert0pia:

I like how you dropped the phone and then its a design fault. I tink most phones on the market have that same fault
