Automobile antenna for mobile reception [data]

For living at the moment I am driving Uberx. Mobile data is essential for us. I was with Optus, many places in Sydney, especially in Dural and other hilly areas I don’t get full coverage. I do understand I need to go with Tel$tra .

But data in Telstra is bit expensive then Optus. I moved to ALDI, (since they use part of Telstra Network), I got no issues so far.
I have not tired Vodaphone network yet. Thinking to try out them.

Just wondering adding extra antenna in my car, will give me better reception with Vodaphone? Any recommendations about antennas and installers based on Sydney are most welcome.

Thanks in advanced!

Maybe try researching a 4G WiFi Modem https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/268169

I believe they have stronger antenna's in them and you could position it somewhere that's not obstructed like your windscreen? I think also some have sockets for external antennas ?

    • Oh Yes, I have not think about that. Yes that could be a option. Thanks for your input

      • Remember that you'll need additional power cable to the modem.

Also look at those with an external antenna port so you've got an extra option for an external antenna if the unit itself doesn't work to your level of expectation.

  • Any external antenna will give you much better reception than your mobile's internal antenna while in a metal box (car).

Buy an on-glass antenna if you do not want to drill a hole, and a Google search brings up heaps.
You can also antennas with a magnetic mount base, so can use them on other people's cars.

You will need a mobile with an antenna socket, and searching "mobile phone with antenna socket" found quite a few.

  • Check your device compatibility with each network on 3G and 4g. If your phone isn't compatible with main frequencies, you'd be better of with better compatible device than external antenna.
