Airpods Are Finally Available for Purchase

Those of you who were waiting for Airpods to be released after the announcement, after 3 ish months later, they are finally up for sales. The price for it is $229.00. It delivers on 19th of December, so I'd assume it'd arrive before Christmas.

So, Apple held everyone hostage ?

Releasing the iPhone 7 without a headphone jack was a $%^& move by Apple.

    I am a NOT proud iPhone 6s owner :(

    • Releasing a phone without a headphone jack was bad enough IMO.

      • I don't really mind with them removing the headphone jack. The problem is they are not changing lightning to USB-C.

        • thats apple for you.
you are lucky they dont remove the volume rocker as yet

        • actually they do sell a lighting to USB C on apple's website

    • Just like a lot of other moves by apple.

Converting from 30 pin to lightning and not releasing an adaptor for months
Converting the new laptops to completely USB-C and only getting third parties to make the majority of the adaptors and waiting months for it too

      • Yep Apple does this and it's just awful, Nintendo does it since 1983 and no one bats an eyelid.

    • I don't see how?

You're not forced to use Airpods …

They are plenty of Bluetooth earphones/headphones out there that are much cheaper.

    Thank god.
Finally people will be able to see my courage while my phone is still in my pocket.

finally we will be able to see how ugly that thing hanging on real human ear in real life.

if you see any on the train please take picture! (with permission of course) j/k

  • Although I have not tried these out(obviously), wouldn't your money be better spent on any other bluetooth headphones? What is the benefit of these over the latest jaybirds for example, considering the price?

gee you must be new (to apple not to ozb).
do you realise they have that apple logo at the box? thats all they need. they will believe this is the best of the best bluetooth for their best of the best phone in the whole heaven and earth.

      • Right it's not like Android users carry on like raving nutters or anything, it's just Apple users only!

    • Apple defies logic but for good reason. There will always be a market for people that don't know how to find the best product for price and would rather pay a premium for a brand they trust. They are not the #1 valued brand in the world for nothing. To be fair on Apple, they don't have a bad track record for the quality of their products, you know exactly what you are going to get when you remove it from the box, albeit there may be 'better' on the market cheaper.

Here is my opinion about Airpods. They are not that expensive considering that they are complete cordless earphones (I will call these cordless, to seperate it from other wireless earphones with cords inbetween).

That said, whoever is buying those are buying, at best, first generation products of a developing market that still needs massive improvements. Someone will say, but there are other wireless earphones out there. The difficulty of making a complete cordless earphone is far higher than those ones with a cord. Unlike those ones with a cord, both pieces need the battery and bluetooth receiver. They have their own problems on top of what the wireless earphones with a cord have.

Two units not being linked together causes a lot of problems. Latency is one of them. More specifically, latency of both not matching up. Another problem that people might face is one unit cutting out more than the other. Distance between two units and the phone is different and more importantly, body is in the way of the signal for one side if you leave the phone in your pocket. Similiarly, one unit can die before the other one and you might have to listen to it mono until it charges.

Of course, these are on top of what normal wireless earphones suffer from. Apple does claim that W1 can solve latency side of the issue. Even with that, I still think the cordless earphones need much improvements all around (the market is too young).

I've shared this since I did know someone who were waiting for one and I did hear that these might get sold out. That said, with that kind of money, I'd probably look into BeatsX, Jaybird X3 and other ones with cords. They are not flawless and they still do need improvements, but it wouldn't have those problems that cordless ones would have. I guess if you really want a cordless one and if you know all the flaws before going in…

  • my friends are going to be soooo envious that I spent so much on a phone and wireless headphones

  • Would rather spend twice the amount on QC35's than the airpod.
