I lose interest in single player games within a month when I play alone. Am I the only one who has this problem?

I used to play racing games along with my friends for hours together. However, when it comes to single player game I lose interest in the game I play within a month.
What's the best way to get the grip over it?
I change the game difficulty and push it for another 15 days but that doesn't really help.

    Play more interesting games

  • Forza Horizon 3 has everything I ever wanted in a racing game but I was over it after about a month and can't find enough interest to pick it up again…

    • What's so special about it? I was a die hard fan of the F1 2012 along with my friend.

      • Good car roster, great graphics & customization, set in Australia…

  • You can play by yourself… but if you had a friend next to you and laughing (like on TV Sitcoms) and making commentary, that would make it more fun for you.
You can even share the gameplay.

    • Then put it on the internet and make a million dollars

Play games with your friends, whether it's on smartphone or pc, even if it is crap. It's just more fun.

      I think Steam is best.

I only play single player games till i complete the game then i never go back.

  • I find most single player games only have 15-20 hours of game in them anyway, unless you go after all the cheeves and try to 100% collectibles etc.
Just count on it being 2-3 bucks an hour and it doesn't seem like it's so expensive entertainment-wise really.

    • Do you mean, I should throw some bucks to get live access and play online multiplayer ?

      • Nah, i mean more like that's about average time to play a single player game before dumping it and moving on to the next one.
At a couple of bucks an hour, it's still value entertainment, when you get bored, just move on to next game!

Stop playing games, you've got better things going on in your life right now it seems. I say this as a life gamer.

    • Yeah. I just bought a raspberry Pi 3 and installed Recalbox! But I still couldn't resist, so I just bought Xbox one S and trying play..

I take long breaks some times, I love games but there's more to life. Just so what makes you happy and come back when you're ready.

  • yep, sometimes I can go a couple of weeks without touching a game, then within a week or so, i've got 2 finished. This month i've finished 3

    • Uhm, what are those games?

    • Rise of the TR, Titanfall 2 and 2 TellTale games Borderlands and The Wolf Among Us

  • If a singleplayer game lasts you a month you're playing it wrong.

But in all seriousness, I find myself bored with shooters, racers, and sandbox games, because the market is so oversaturated with them. So I know where you're coming from to a degree. But then I can play a singleplayer strategy game for hundreds of hours, because they have a tendency to grip you and not let go, and usually offer significantly more replayability.

I also have been more interested in games that provide me something to think about, like Undertale and Oneshot, or Inside. If I needed a game that was 'fun', there are hundreds of other games I could play for a quick release, but I'd rather play something that stands out and sticks with me for a while. It's so impossible to say "WOW" when playing an action game these days because it's all so "Yep, I've seen this before".

It's not 'just you', but it's probably got something to do with the games you are playing. If you're only playing the games the industry parades as the 'big boys' then you'll consistantly fall asleep with what they have to offer, because the videogame industry does not expect you to play every game they show off. And in the end, if you don't want to play different genres or more experimental titles, then consider taking a break from videogames for a while or stick with multiplayer titles.

    • Frankly speaking, I have sold my PS4 a month ago as I stopped playing it for a while. I have just got an Xbox with Forza and Battelfield 1, but as you mentioned I developed a feeling of "I have seen this before".

Apart from the games, I also find Xbox is not as good as PS4 as you all know it. The reason I turned up for Xbox is, I was so curious to have a handson with Xbox after PS4 and disappointed.

After all, Now am thinking if I can just return my Xbox and acquire a brand new PS4 with a best strategy game.

      • Both consoles are pretty similar experiences, fizzling in comparison to the last generation, and triply so when compared to the generation before.

So many people now buy games and don't even ever actually play them, so the industry makes games that are JUST good enough without innovating, because only 80% of players actually play the first level (Seriously; look at the global 'cheevs)

STRATEGY GAME SPAM: The best strategy games are available on Steam/PC, with strategy being verrrry hard to pull off on consoles. I would recommend Rimworld or Dwarf Fortress, but you might be safer starting with a Civilisation game. Civ5 is still the best one, and the recent Xcom games are superb. FTL is a good one too if you like space games and roguelikes (roguelike means "permadeath RPG" basically, if you've never heard the term). There's also the Total War games (I recommend medieval and Shogun) and the entire sub-genre of 4X (which again, are usually space games lol)

PS4 has some 'interesting' looking exclusive titles coming out next year (which is why I got one 3 weeks ago!) but still sticking true to the sandbox/action/sport trope so that it can still pull in the sales figures. God of War 4 and Horizon Zero Dawn look interesting enough.

It pains me to say it, but if you have a good PC you don't even need an Xbox One, as nearly all titles are multi-platform (give or take a little tableshooting/compatibility issues you might run into on PC!) Microsoft is definitely future-proofing the Xbox brand to outlast Playstation in the long-game, but to do so they had to take a big risk on losing the short game (Though they are keeping up by the ridiculously cheap prices of the xbox one consoles)

  • i like games such as prince of persia, tomb raider, dantes inferno, uncharted. Can anyone recommend other games similar to those gameplay? not so much into the shooter COD type and 'choose own story' games.

    • It's ironic that many 'choose your own story' games of today are locked into one path of progression anyway and only change minimal things to fool most people.

ANYHOW, current gen hack n' slash and adventure titles are pretty barren at the moment. You might like Bayonetta, or any other Platinum games titles. You would probably also like Gears of War as it's setpiece-heavy like Uncharted and Tomb Raider. And there's a fair amount of platforming action coming in the Rareware successor Yooka-Laylee which comes out next year.

BUT I can definitely recommend Darksiders, specifically Darksiders 2. It's been given a 'next gen makeover', so you would probably find yourself enjoying the 30+ hours of action adventure

      • I see, Is there a new game for PS4 which will make you sit for hours together when playing alone?

        • For me, Uncharted is the only one that comes to mind. The Last Of Us as well… basically anything Naughty Dog does lol.

Let me point you over to the batman games. I don't even rally like batman as a character and the games STILL kick ass ;D
      Arkham Asylum
      Arkham City
      Arkham Origins
      Arkham Knight

      • Ahhh! i actually did buy the whole batman series on PS3 because my partner was really into Arkham Knight. Havent even opened the cover yet and my ps3 has died :( now weighing up if should bother repairing or just buy new, or at all since we've got Ps4 and XB1 :(

        • My brother got a 2Nd hand at a garage sale for $35 last week with 2 controlers.

I get how you're feeling mate! I tend to always have FIFA to play casually for just an hour or so but i used to love having single player games i could not get off for hours at a time. No game has hooked me like that for quite some time. I enjoyed Arkham Knight, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Assassins Creed Syndicate. But not like how i obsessed over AC2, Bioshock and FFX. I feel it's time restraint, my game playing is more broken now in adult life, so i don't get into the story as fully; or, maybe something just hasn't hooked me in a while! I'm hoping the latter, but it's been a good year or two since something really got me obsessing.

    • Uhm, yeah. I decided to return my Xbox with all four games, and then I have to do the research on best strategy game on steam.

I always feel that PC can't deliver high performance graphics compared to gaming consoles that's why am abandoning my Alienware m14r. I should clean up my Alienware and start over.

      • I don't have time to maintain and run a PC. Seems to be a lot to know to keep it running high level games. Prefer to just fork out $400 at the beginning for a console and let it update itself!

        • Ahmm, It's not a big deal to throw 400 bucks and acquire a brand new console and set it up. The problems are with the games. When I spend another 80 bucks for a game and I end up losing interest with in 20 days.

I was looking for a answer where I can play an online multiplayer games in cheapest way.!

@Sowny: Download the free ones. I play a game called Haven and Hearth, which is amazing fun with mates. It's entirely free forever, so.

My brother also playhs War Thunder, and has hundreds of hours in that. If you don't go for tanks and planes, there's always the Battleships game, or something more casual like Hearthstone.

Basically, if you don't want to pay for a game in 2016, there's usually a decent free equivalent (Like the Overwatch/Paladins comparison) Hell, even War Thunder and Warframe are available on PS4 :D

Ahahaha you a funny man… My brothers 2 year old pc is better than every console.

If you aint getting compute power from your pc its your fault. That said $ for $ the console is better value game wise, Microsoft and Sony subsidise your hardware so you will buy $80 games.

        • For $1500, $1700 you can buy a machine that will last you 4 years (6 if you are the kind of person who can tolerate games on 'low' settings after a while). The age of the consoles is so up in the air right now; if Microsoft expects you to pay $200-$400 dollars every year for an Xbox then it will start to validate the prices for a PC.

But on that same vein, the games are cheaper (most of the time) on PC. PC also has the luxury of having Humble bundles, but the consoles have the benefit of the "Games with gold" free bundles from time to time. You don't need to pay for online on PC but the free games tend to pay for it.

But I play unique games, regardless of platform. I own a PC and PS4 (a-and a wii-u…) because now I can access 100% of the exclusives on the market, except for Halo, but let's face it, 343 can't make Halo games to save their lives lol.

        • +1

@FrankMcFuzz: your arguement is valid but I feel the free titles on pc negate the games with gold.
