What Do You Want to See in Your Music App?

Heya

We are currently developing a music app for the mobile with a bit of a twist. Focusing on parties and gatherings.

Eventually we would like to make this usable in everyday life. What features would you like to see in the music app of your choice?

i.e. easy to use, do you care about equalizers? etc…

new + old ideas welcome.

Thanks!

This is in relation to this deal:

I would like to see artist's albums under each of their names, this makes it extremely easy find the music i want and navigate, also put in a search function.

    Make the equalizer.

Make a good function of playlist, like a drag and drop system, so the playlist is easy to make.

    • Indeed, navigation always needs to be a strong point in a music app!

This is a feature with rocket player on android and the default iOS music app.
If you listen to music by album like me, it is necessary, I think.

I would love and pay for an app that let me:

    1. Play from my NAS.

    2. Browse and play folders (i have organised my music into folders myself, don't need the app to scan tags for artists, albums, genres etc). Let me pick a folder and play/queue all musics on folder and subfolders.

    3. Chromecast support. (E.g. di.fm app (android))

I have yet to find one with all 3.

    • Nice, I like the NAS idea, the app already has WiFi capabilities adding that to it someday could be quite possible.

Folder view option instead of automatically scanning cant be that hard to implement.

Chromecasting could be a separate mode, but that will take some planning by the looks of it.

      thanks for the feedback :-D

    • I like these suggestions.

Additionally it would be good to only populate my music library from selected directories.

I have all my music in one folder, but every player I've tried scans the whole phone and adds things like ringtones, recordings, audiobooks, language lessons and other random junkn i don't want in my music library.

  • Everything, just like every other music app out there (eventually).

Sorry. apathy aside, how about a WinAmp revival but done better? The old one was a dodgy UI, it could do so much better these days.

Oh and of course, write it all in Assembly for lightness and speed!!

    • haha! as far as everything goes, I havn't found an app that does the same voting thing our app does in the same way. :-D

Good old WinAmp. Our next Version will be Android and IOS compatible. We're aiming for it to be "Light", easy to use and responsive.
      Just like it should be.

Heh, that sounds cool. Will check it out and try to support u just because u ask OzB about the features!

If u vow to knock off iTunes (sell out to Apple, lol?) the whole world will support you assuming it is small. Perhaps do a group of apps, all of which work with the one profile full of content and metadata, just one fort music, one for short video, one for movies, and others for management and so on. Noo-ne wants more than a few mb of memory using up resources and chewing through battery life making calls to the internet for no good reason when all they want to do is listen to their tunes.

But the consumers don't think that way so it (could) be a bit like secret sauce for you to always have factored in. Most of these sorts of apps are highly promiscuous like this so whilst in the background and are busy doing all sorts of things that the user didn't ask for when they just hit play track or load playlist.

I dump any app that slows down my phone. It's just too important a device to have doing someone else's ideas of the tasks at hand. Even on a modern phone it's bad enough just running a stock ROM or iOS10 these days- they carry on with too much crap also!

But you need more than the idea to do it, you need a way of keeping the investors out of the kitchen cos they'll all want you to turn it into a Media Center or the next iTunes.

        • hahaha promise it will never be one of those apps. I hate that shit. All I want is an app that does what it needs to and no spy stuff etc.

    1. Ability to customise playlists

      eg
On the fly adding on the fly removing

    2. Honestly if you can somehow automate playlists like certain genre or group similar artists

    3. Renaming feature if you could somehow stylise our ever messy hard drives like clean up our crappy names etc but this would require some very high level form of AI

    4. Honestly just copy dessert Spotify and etc they already IMO have good music video players.

    5. Lastly if you create a sub post mediocre music player with no new tricks it might just cut a simple niche such as design or naming conventions

If your app doesn't really do anything new then it might just get passed

    Bonus suggestion

    Cross device seamless simple streaming

Example say you want to share with somebody a song or pay song together at the same time for could be your defining feature hell call it "song chill group time" or etc where you and a friend can sync up or listen to the same music or media at the same time but in different rooms etc on different device maybe people could even use it for reading or listening to eBooks or podcasts but yeah some sort of sharing peer to peer device would be awesome or even maybe for a group call it maybe listening together?

Anyways sorry for your wall of text I love reading and thinking of great all ideas some win some fail but the gaming or productivity section is where the money is at.. most music stuff is what covered IMO deezer etc vlc Poweramp pro etc

Anyways that's really all from me

    • All good! Couple of nice idea's there.
You will most certainly be able to customize the playlist on the fly. That's the whole selling point at the moment for parties. But doing it "solo" will be implemented once it gets updated.
Cross device is the ultimate goal. How it works right now is it play the music through one device but allow other devices to vote for whats actually playing. Allowing all devices to play the media simultaneously is an interesting idea.

      Thanks.

      • That is a sweet idea. Crowd participation is the way.. man I can't wait till we implement crowd DJing haha lol aka twitch song request streaming..

I have been to a party where the DJ made the music on the fly in the city of near Petersham area yeah that was very fly very dope can't really remember the DJ now or what apps or programs he used but he was from the US doing simple small tour here in like 2008-2009 ish

        • True that. Another idea we have is putting in a DJ mode so they can just broadcast their playlist to everyone and then the crowd can vote for what they want to hear. The DJ can get an idea of what people want. Their actual device doesn't play the audio in that situation.

Also using the app normally in between sets in pubs/clubs would work really well.
