Holden Cruze Key Broken - Need Replacement

Hi All,

I am located in Melbourne and unfortunately my Holden Cruze car key has come out from the key case. I am still using it by manually putting it in case.

I enquired from locksmith and they are asking for $250 for new car key with remote.

Is there any better and less expensive solution that you can suggest to me.

Thanks in Advance

Smith

Can you buy a new case off ebay and put the internals into the new case?

This sounds like a good idea.

      Quick ebaying yielded this.

  • I got a quote for a new Hyundai key with a chip for $75, others wanted $160.

A Key Shell costs around $5.00 on ebay , You get the key cut at a local locksmith for around $4.00 and then swap the internals that's it.

  • How old is your car? usually with older keys what you do is get a replacement key(usually a shell) from dealer. if electronics all work fine shells are cheap like 60-70 bucks but make sure you call a few dealers and get the lowers price or you'll get ripped off, the dealer gives you a security code for you to give to key cutting place as they wouldn't cut it otherwise(you may already know this code from the time you bought the car usually a spare key would have this code attached or dealer gives you this information), then you pay about 40 bucks and get it cut(usually dealer would recommend you a place they use. once cut go back to dealer to code it(program is), if they don't code the key wouldn't work in the ignition. then your'e done. if your electronics on the key i mean the remote is stuffed you need to get a new key which is more expensive and need to follow same procedure as above to get it cut and programmed. for a new key your'e looking at about 200-300 but do call a few dealers.i know from experience some dealers are just bastards and offer you ridiculous quotes, some are genuine and much nicer.

  • Dealer will charge you to program the key as well, forgot to mention, they usually charge around 50 bucks. all up you're looking at 14Oish if your remote still works.

  • How old is the car?
The key should be covered under warranty assuming it hasn't been damaged.
It sounds like the same problem that occurred on our key which was fixed by the dealer at no cost.

  • I am in the same boat.. Using my key manually by inserting it. I'm in the ACT, the best quote I've got here is 300 :(
