Delivery Hero Closing Business

Got this from email below about DH is closing down to join foodora. Sad news for us as I have over last 2 years getting their 20off, 15off, 12off and mostly 10off code to get cheaper food to the door for lazy nights. Its not gonna happen anymore as not really a fan of new Foodora and restaurants associated with them all in City area anyway.

Dear me OZB, we have something to tell you!

For more than 5 years, Delivery Hero has been working to be the best takeaway option for their users in Australia , including you 😊
Now, we're happy to announce we're consolidating with foodora to bring you even more delicious restaurants.

What will happen to the Delivery Hero website? 💻
We will be closing our site, so users who visit DeliveryHero.com.au will be redirected to Foodora.com.au

How would this affect my account? 🙋
Unfortunately, your Delivery Hero account will no longer be available. We will close all accounts and remove your personal information. However, you can always access your favourite restaurants by creating a new account on Foodora: Sign up here

What about my favourite meals? 🍕
If you're living in, or visiting, Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane foodora lets you order meals from your favourite neighbourhood restaurants that traditionally don't deliver so you'll have a greater choice than before.

Finally we would like to say a big THANK YOU to you for custom and being an awesome Delivery Hero user, we're looking forward to seeing you on foodora.com.au 😉

Kind regards,
Your Delivery Hero team.

    Have you tried Menulog?

    • my already limited local restaurants have slightly higher charge on delivery n min orders with them.

also eatnow n menulog hv very few promos so little worth pay full price

+1 for Menulog as you get triple points when paying on the Virgin Plat Amex

Otherwise UberEats? I believe there was a few promo codes going around.

  • It's a shame, but there's no way DH's business model could compete with that of Foodora and Deliveroo.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Foodora/Deliveroo model finds life hard going in the next year or so too - once the drivers/cyclists actually do the sums and realise the pressures/costs they're absorbing vs the actual equivalent salary they're earning I'd say the retention of good/honest/efficient deliverers becomes an issue.

Hopefully by that time someone has figured out how to legally and efficiently do drone delivery and we'll have a new set of disruptive businesses.

Delivery Hero was good while it lasted, but I (and I'd say quite a few people) only ever used it for the big discounts. That's not a sustainable way to retain customers.

A lot of my local restaurants have been slipping little vouchers into my meal orders lately, sending me to their website direct and offering big discounts to order direct, essentially giving me the fee they pay to ML/EN/FOOD/DELRO etc as a discount.

  • DeliveryHero serviced Adelaide.
    Foodora doesn't (yet).

    D'oh!

Back to Menulog, EatNow or maybe UberEats.

    • I used UberEats 3 times this week utilizing that $10 x 3 deal they have going. Got a 500ml tub of Cookies & Cream delivered from St Louis in Glenelg for $7.90 delivered. Can't complain about that for premium ice cream.

Milkman is also my other go to for anything which Menulog doesn't have. Pretty pricey though normally.

  • Foodora is only in the cbd from my knowledge. I've no idea why they bought out delivery hero but leaving out the massive market in residential areas.

  • Yup I noticed DH app mentioned this about a month ago, but Foodora don't deliver to my area, so kind of a bad deal there in my opinion.

Will miss all the old DH coupons, but I'll stick with MenuLog and EatNow.

    RIP Delivery Hero

    • Menulog own Eatnow so no real competition left in the regular home delivery market.

Delivery Hero AU was dying for a while. They no longer post on Social Media since August last year, and has since removed their Facebook page. Last Delivery Hero deal was from May this year. If you go to their international site and Australia is not even listed. Interestingly it was Delivery Hero who acquired Foodora / Suppertime last year. So it looks like Delivery Hero is giving up on Australian business and shifting to a smaller operations only in metro area in east coast.

A bit too much competition I guess.

Dammit, can't get NBN or restaurant food delivered. My location stinks!

    • +3

No NBN as long as you are in a Heritage listed town it seems.

      • Wow!!

    its pretty much standard
    build a app/website/offering
get a customer base up fast (offer freebies)
    sell to competitor for $$$

    repeat!

  • So Delivery Hero's head office has owned Foodora for some time,
it makes sense that they would phase out the DH brand.

Menulog/Eatnow (Same company) has twice the number of restaurants than DH has
DH charged smaller commission fees (6.5% vs 10% ML/EN)
Delivery Hero is being phased out and replaced with Foodora in almost all regions where DH exists.

Delivery hero sounds better than Foodora

  • +1 up vote… I didn't know about this, thanks. Foodora don't serve as many suburbs as Delivery Hero did though, looks like it's just inner city. Hope this will change :/
