    can get cheaper elsewhere

    • Hi Tuzii,

Yes we absolutely agree that you can find cheaper elsewhere but we stand by our product and don't want our customers wearing a "cheap" looking suit.

      • +2

I think you are preying on the uninformed here with your generic marketing spiel. Claiming that your suits are better with no track record or proof, expecting someone to pay $349 to you before being sent a fabric book.

There are so many competitors to what you offer with far better reputation.

  • +2

I seriously doubt you provide a "handmade" suit for $349. Corners have to be cut somewhere.

Are the suits even wool? Where are they made?

For suits fit is number 1. Much rather pay more for an in person experience.

    • Fit certainly is Number 1 which is why we think once you've found one that fits its the best way to replicate that same fit to other suit fabrics and expand the collection.

The suits are 80% wool and handmade in Shanghai by master tailors with 20 years experience.

The only "corner cut" is lower labour costs.

An in person experience is best and if you can afford it then it is the way to go but at these prices we need to keep overheads low.

      • That 80% wool should be mentioned in your post.

What is the other 20% made of?

        • +1

Hi the other 20% is made from polyester.

Without a doubt 100% wool is best if your willing to pay for it but a 80/20 blend can achieve very similar results with a fraction of the price

          @CloneSuit:

I have trouble understanding your proposition.

          You assume that:
          1. Your customer has trouble fitting into off the rack suits
          2. Your customer has a well fitting suit that they want copied.
          3. They want a bargain and are willing to skim on quality to buy a poly-blend suit from an unknown online shop.

Wouldn't said customer already have spent a fare amount on their well fitted suit since it won't be off the rack? If so why would they choose to add a cheap poly blend suit to their collection?

If they do fit off the rack why would they purchase your suit since they can get a 100% wool suit for a similar price?

        • 20% is made from polyester

          1. Customer has spend large sums on money on a custom made suit that fits well. But now only has 1 or two suits to keep re-wearing. CloneSuit can replicate the fit and expand the collection.

          2. Customer has bought off the rack for a suit that kind of fits and taken it to an alteration shop for adjustments. CloneSuit can replicate what you've already done to avoid going through that process of shopping and alterations again.

The 20% is blood, sweat and tears.

  • How can it be "(Was $499)" if you've never opened before?

    • It is $499 however early adopters will be given a discount if they qualify

  • Canvas? Half canvas?

    • Hi,

Thanks for your question, the price is for half canvas. Full canvas is available but does cost more.

  • +3

I feel weird about sending you one of my existing suits…. Can't you just work off measurements provided to you?

    • Hi

We've done extensive research on this and in previous trials with friends and family, taking measurements from an existing suit yourself just didn't lead to the fit being perfect. It is understandably a hurdle to have to send in a suit but one which we believe will achieve the best result.

    • +1

It's a trap, you send in a $3000 suit and they send back a knock off. Profit.

  • Way too much of a hassle to get a suit that is not even 100% Wool or Full Canvas at $349…

    • +1

you expect full canvas for $350? LOL, you'd be lucky to get half canvas

      • -1

To be clear I expect 100% wool for $350. I don't necessarily expect full canvas for $350 but for this much effort, I'd expect to be getting a full canvas.

So you just copy other peoples hard work. Typical of a Chinese company. Will you even copy the tags too?

    • +3

You make zero sense, you obviously don't wear suits or you would understand.
Typical unaware ozBer throwing around his uneducated 2cents.

So what happens if say you sent me the new suit (and ofcourse my suit back) and the new one doesnt fit well?

Do you fix that? if so, how?
How many days will it take?
Who pays the shipping to shanghai and back?
Would you need my old suit again to accompany the new one?

    Cheers!

    • It goes through a quality check to make sure it is the same size as your original suit.

From there if it doesn't fit well we will pay for alteration costs up to $50. More importantly we want to know what happened and why it doesn't fit well so we can make sure it doesn't happen again.

All shipping costs are covered by us.

Not sure what you mean by the last question.

      • thanks for your response.

For the last question… If you will have to send the new suit back to shanghai to get it fixed, would you also need the suit from which you originally cloned this one?

        • +1

Ah I see - iF it needs fixing it will be done locally at an alterations shop of your choosing

        • @CloneSuit: Thanks again.. Can you also answer "WillisAU" questions in the below comment? Seems like a lot of people are interested to know the same.. Cheers!

There are nowhere near enough pictures on your website to entice a purchase, or enough information about what will be “cloned”. It would be good to see more of the order form to understand what measurements and features are matched. Are you going to clone button stance? Lapel width? Lapel notch height? Pick stitching? Shoulder pads or lack thereof? Darts? trouser pleats? Trouser seat? Width of the leg top to bottom? Patch pockets?
I’m all for new and innovative businesses especially in the menswear segment, but I’m not sure about this one. Why wouldn’t I go to a DFO outlet and buy the best fitting MJ Bale suit I could find for $300-$400 and get it altered slightly?

    • The most important part of the clone is the sizing. As far as styling goes you can have it exactly the same, or you can change it up with a different style. e.g. different style pocket, lapel, vents, pleats etc.

But we wouldn't recommend pleats - no stylish gentlemen uses trouser pleats anymore unless you really need that extra room.

It's all made from scratch so it doesn't matter what you want as a style as long as we know.

It's up to you if you want to change it up a bit or keep it exactly the same style.

BTW: the only clone suit I would order is one of these: http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/c/c8/Clo…

Just signed up for the first time to say LOL on your comment!

  • I went to Target yesterday and got their Limited Editions suit for $89 using $10 flybuy dollars. Bloody awesome fitting! If you buy it online and use Click and Collect then you can get if for $79.

  • Quite a few posters have said there are cheaper and better alternatives, care to share what they are? I'm in the market for a couple of new suits.

    • The last 2 boxing days I've bought a new suit from Myer… they tend to have 40% or 50% off nearly their whole range. I've found Italia Collezioni to be decent.

Gotta get there bang on opening time, then you can get a dude to help you with fitting it before he starts helping someone else, try on and be out in 15 min and home in time for the start of the cricket.

      • This is hardly an alternative, unless you are blessed with an off the rack body or willing to settle on short comings on the fit.

        • True - I've found the higher end Myer/DJ suits tend to be a reasonable fit (although certainly not perfect) and if you can get them at 40 or 50% off, are reasonably priced compared to a custom tailored suit.

Just giving Fungi another option if a custom fit isn't a must for him

    • any DFO? Peter Jackson and so on. My suit was 249 then I also paid 50 for alteration soooooo….

    • I always recommend off the rack suits unless you have a big budget.

Good brands are Rhodes and Becket, MJ bale, herringbone, TM lewin

The latter has sale suits for $300. You can try/return it in their physical stores if it doesn't fit.

You also need to factor in tailoring costs.

  • +2

OP, have to give you props for a good idea - but you're probably shooting for the wrong crowd here (eg. people buying suits for $80 etc).

I'd take a shot at it, but all the suits I have are already not the best fit anyway so I wouldn't want them cloned haha

  • So they ran out of fabric books LOL. Must've been such a popular deal.

I have to neg now based on how dodgy this retailer is.
