Work from Home - Alternate Locations I Can Work from?

Hi there,

I've just started working from home (I work 2 days a week) but I'm looking for other locations I can go to get work done one day a week for minimal cost. Would love your advice on where you go.

I need good wifi and I'll be taking my laptop
I'm not a big coffee drinker (so coffee shops out / not sure how people can stay in one all day anyway..)
Happy to pay up to $30 / day
(I freelance so I have no bosses office etc)

I'm currently in St George area of Sydney so would be open to any locations near there or even around Taren Point area.

Is anyone else in a similar situation? Would love your advice on where you go.

Cheers!

enrol in university, drop out before census date. use uni library till the end of year.

    • Since when do you need to be a student to use the Uni Library?

      They only check after hours.

libraries often have meeting rooms, or even quiet corners you can use.

Or you could put an ad on gumtree. Someone with a separate home office / granny flat with separate entrance may want a tenant once a week for cash.

    • Yeh, go to the library and use their wifi if available.

Depends on the work you do. Remember most public network are easily hackable.

    • Agreed. Ask your Work IT dept if they have a VPN you can use.

    Hi,

Regus have Miranda or Rockdale or Botany and other locations.

Usually a decent coffee/tea making facilities and good WiFi.

You aren't tied to a location, just pick the location that suits you.

    Look into Regus

  • Do a search on co-working environments on Google. I am in the same situation as you, but in Brisbane, I use co-working environments and free govt supplied small business spaces. Sydney has places like Fishburners etc.

    • Those spaces are very trendy for entrepreneurs atm, women only. Where do the men hang out?

      • Yeah there are a lot of trendy people at them. I find a pretty even mix between women and men. I am a bit more practical than some of the startups I see, I prefer to work in spaces that don't cater solely to startups for that reason.

    • "free govt supplied small business spaces"
where are those? How do I find out about them? thanks

      • I am in Brisbane, here there is a small business center at the State Library that has reasonable speed internet supplied and you book desks on a daily basis. There are more casual environments also at the libraries. I found out about these through word of mouth.

Maybe the NSW govt does something similar, perhaps in the same way through the library system.

  • Why don't you get one of the many mobile plans with data and tether from that? Unless you're using gigabytes, then that would be a better option.

  • Thanks everyone you're awesome!

Have my own wifi stick and a VPN so library might be an option.

I'd love somewhere close for coworking like Regus Rockdale - they would be perfect but I'm scarred off by all the horrible reviews (everybody hates them on http://www.productreview.com.au/p/regus.html) and they don't have pricing online which always seems dodgy to me! Does anyone know the Regus casual price? Or somewhere else like this (with nice staff) in the St George area?
