Best 4ch Security Camera System $600

Just looking for what people would suggest to be the best 4ch security camera system for outdoor (under eaves) of our home with a budget of $600.
I've researched some options and most people suggest hikvision but not real sure what to buy. Majority of the outside of our house is very well lit from the street lights being on an intersection, darkest spot would be aiming at the shed but happy to install a sensor spotlight near the camera in that direction.

Happy to even buy something with 2 cameras and add on to later if it is a better system.

  • Go with the Hikvision Setup if you can it will pay off in the long run, they are absolutely awesome cameras, I would recommend the 4mp turret for the best quality money can get at a cheap price ~ 120 delivered off ebay

Network cable is a hell of lot better than the garbage coax swann systems of yesteryear but Swann do now have some networked systems which are okay, you need a minimum of 1mp resolution for evidence in court, try to avoid those D1, cheaper coaxial systems, they are cheap for a reason

Ask yourself these questions before spending money.

Do you need 4 cameras or will 2 cameras provide enough coverage, then you have the question of dead spots where one camera can't see so you may need to compliment that with another camera
you can always add more cameras if you buy a 8 channel DVR now and put 2 cameras on it.

Then there is the issue of what mm lens will you need for maximum coverage vs distance off the ground

Are we talking one story / two stories etc?

Sensor lights I try to avoid where possible, the night vision is excellent on the Hikvision at least 20 to 30m no issue

  • Thanks for the help.
We're one storey but for one of the cameras above the driveway there is a peaked roof so I thought of mounting it there maybe 4m high the rest would be around ceiling height ~2.4m maybe.
We're on an acre so have a pretty open block So I thought four so that will cover 1 gated entrance, the drive way, the shed, and either front door or back patio.

So maybe 2 cameras for a range of 10-20m max and 2 would be 20m+ just not sure what that equates to for what I should get.
Any suggestion for a 4ch recording box ?

You will need to add a 1tb HDD or its 219 for the 1TB HDD model
1TB will be enough for 2 cameras for at least 7 days of recording

      $219 for 1tb model delivered

      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Hikvision-DS-2CD3345-I-4MP-POE-IR…

$204 dollars for 2 cameras delivered

50m Network cable $26 x 2 (I try and get 50m as legally you can run network cable through the walls of your house provided they are terminated on each end :)

$52 dollars for the cabling delivered

For the wall outlet if you own your place

      http://www.cablechick.com.au/cables/bullnose-wall-plate-with…

      $14.95 delivered

Total 489.95 for all that which should get you going to begin with

You can add more cables / cameras and get a price but this is a good starter kit I would use

Shipping can be the biggest delay but the sellers listed are quite reasonable and I have bought from them before

      • Thanks mate. That's very helpful, exactly what I was after. Do you know what would the difference be between the 2.8mm or 4mm lens camera be ?

      • Been a while but I should get to buying a system soon. It appears those cameras are significantly more expensive than 12/2016 bummer. Extra $90 for 1tb drive seems steep?

        • Hey mate,

Did you end up buying and installing it? I'm looking for product links similar to the above post for my single storey house. Hope you can help.

        • @vjoz:
