Cheap Plywood/Particle Boards in Sydney Metro Areas? (Short of Picking up Discarded Ones off People's Front Yards)

Hi,

As the title suggests, I was wondering if anyone is aware of any shops in Sydney that sell cheap particle boards or plywood (at least 1m x 1xm, and at least 1.5cm thick, another up to 1cm more is even better)? It is going to be used as the base of an 'addon' to a soft DDR mat, so it's going to take some abuse (think constant stomping of an adult male). My $300 TX-6000 crapped itself (several years ago now, and only had an unfortunate 30 days of warranty), and I'm giving up on repairing the insides for the time being, and instead looking to beef up my soft mat for under $20, preferably under $10, even.

All the more well known shops (which is really just Bunnings, off the top of my head) don't have anything that fits this criteria under $20. I imagine there are shops that stock it though, just not easily found via Google/don't have any online presence - the other main material that I need, vinyl/PVC covers (to layer over and protect the soft DDR mat) also go for $20+ per meter for anything that fits the purpose, but I know there's a shop in a suburb in Eastwood that sells basically the same thing (thicker, even) for only $5/m or less (ish).

Any tips greatly appreciated!

TL;DR - anyone know any places with cheap ($10 or even less) with solid/moderately durable plywood/particle board that's at least 1m x 1m, and at least 1.5cm thick (no more than about 2.5cm though - to withstand constant jumping/stomping on it)?

Ask in the bunnings timber section for "cover sheets", normally sell for $2-$5 depending on size.

    • Thanks for the tip! Are these leftover-type pieces that used to be part of other things or something along those lines? It doesn't look like the cover sheets you mentioned are officially on their website :O

They are placed top and bottom to protect a full pallet of sheets so some may have strap marks and scatches, but the majority are fine.

Ah yep it's all in the name, silly me. Thanks for pointing that out! Might actually go for the more damaged ones to see how cheap they'll let go of them for :D
