Hakuba to Narita Airport Shuttle Needed February 2017

Hi guys,

me and my partner are going to Hakuba February 20th-27th and I need a little help with organising from Hakuba back to Narita airport.

Every shuttle option I'm looking at arrives from Hakuba to Narita airport at 4:30pm. Now my flight isn't till 8:30pm I really don't want to be waiting around that long.

Anyone can help me find another alternative? The Japanese train timetables looks soooo confusing!

  • Other options:

Train from Hakuba to Shinjuku, then from Tokyo station take the NEX to narita.

Bus from Hakuba to Nagano, and then Shinkensen to Tokyo station. Nex to narita.

    • where can I see the traintimetable times?

Don't you have to check in 2 hours before so you should be at the counter by 6:30 pm? So you only get 2 hours extra. Have a meal in Narita?

    • i agree, there is a decent amount of places to eat at arrivals. On the top floor close to entering customs (i think) there is a decent place with italian food, wifi and power. Even a cool outlook of the airport if you go up the top left escalators, which makes really good sunset photos

      • true I just hate waiting! thanks for your help

    • thanks

  • OP, you may already be aware, Google Maps is quiet good for transport options.

If you arrive at the same time as your flight departs, you can stay another full night.

    • haha that be good if it wasn't a waste of money!

4 hours early really isn't that early.

The airlines say ideally you should arrive 3 hours prior for international , 2 hours minimum.

So it just means you can go and grab something to eat, charge your devices and maybe download a movie or 2 for the flight home. Book the shuttle, normally you can cancel but they DO book out.

When I was in Japan the checkin line was MASSIVE for Jetstar. That was at the end of jan so it might have been mostly school holiday returns.

    • thanks okay 4 hours early it is! :-)

  • Hey op, looking at doing the same just a week after you :)
Which shuttle company are you using? I was planning on doing the train/bus combo but if shuttles better may consider that

  • sorry to bring this back to life.

Have looked at the shuttle buses and they are just a bit pricey and times do not align with the cheaper ones:(

Considering the train option now. Hoping for some advice
We land in narita then are going straight to Hakuba (5 days) then hakuba to tokyo (3 days) then flying out from Narita.

Is it best to buy some sort of rail pass? or just buy as we go?

    • pricey how much ? I'm paying about $220 aud for me and my partner. It seemed to be the cheaper, less confusing and fastest option.

      • The one you suggested is cheaper but we land at 8:30, so miss the 9am meaning we have to kill 3 hours before the next one
