Home Solar - Delay in Nett Meter installation

Hi all,
So 6 months ago I received a letter saying that as of January 1st the Solar rebate will drop back to 6 cents a Kw and that a new Nett meter will be installed free of charge before Jan 1 to allow us to use the power we make then sell the rest back to the grid at 6c.
I chased the installation up with Origin Energy yesterday and they told me that due to us having 3 phase power there will be a delay in the installation of the meter.
When is asked ?
Some time in 2017 was the reply.
So….until they install the meter I sell everything I make back to them at 6c a Kw then buy everything we use back at 24c a Kw.
The delay is due to them and I can't see why they would rush to install the meter when they are getting such a good deal.
Has anyone else experienced this and do you have any advice ?
Thanks

  • Not much you can do

You have a non standard 3 phase setup, most likely a f**k up from their installation team
Keep all documentation and corrospondence and see how it pans out

Probably a back log of work

    • 3 phase is pretty common, so it sounds like you are talking to the wrong people.

      My advice;

If it really matters why don't you just pay for the meter change over yourself? You have made lots of money from having the FiT .

What will your losses be, $2 a day? Overall you might "loose" $55 (over a month that you wait) but be the beneficiary of new $500 3ph smart meter. Kinda sounds like you are still getting a bargain to me.

Your maximum losses per day can be up to $7.2 /day for a 10kW system, however with an investment grade system you should have worked out a meter change over transition plan long ago.

Whatever happens you are still going to be ahead if you have to wait a while. The new 3ph smart meters are awesome and have heaps of features for monitoring power quality,PF, TOU. Lots of energy providers have great portals /apps so you can optimise your production/energy consumption. You should be able to make your losses back pretty quickly through optimisation.

      Good luck

      • common where?

Not in most residental areas its not really "common"

but I guess it depends on where you live and how your house is wired up

  • You could try contacting https://www.ewon.com.au/page/contact-us and say as a consequence of the extended delay you won't be in the position you would have otherwise been.

I doubt if any other provider (if you were to switch) could do anything in the time frame and you shouldn't have to switch anyway…

Otherwise, you could WRITE to Origin and ask them how they will account for the Consumption/Production of Electricity post 1/1/17 for the offer that you have accepted and that they haven't fulfilled.

  • do you have any advice ?

The government and the electricity industry have jointly ripped you off and are lining the pockets of the extremely wealthy at your expense. If you are able to sue them that would be appropriate but at least stop trusting and voting for the same charlatans that put you here.
