Productivity Life Hacks

What are your hacks in life?

Things you do, that you think you just "hit the spot" with.

I'll start and walk you through a bit of my daily routine and life "set up" per se.

There's no chronological order to list these, but I'll start now:

1) I have everythign backed up on the Google Eco System. Google photos, google drive, chromecast, google docs, google sheets, google keep, google trips etc.
2) I have 3 different "to-Do" lists. The first one is a checklist for tasks for each day (E.g. Pay Electricity bill). The second is a schedule for the day E.g. 9-10am Meeting, 10-11am: Paperwork etc etc. And the third list is for longer term things - Things that I know I won't do today, but I DO need to complete sooner or later.
3) I have everything backed up in neat folders - E.g. 2016 -> Semester 1 -> Accounting Class 1A -> Assignment 1 -> Files etc.
4) I deleted the FB app from my phone. I only ever log on from the browser - It demotivates me, because I have to manually open FB website, then log in (I purposely log out each time)
5) I can't think of anythign else right now :( This thread sounded so much cooler in my head last night when I was contemplating posting!

Anyway, I'm yet to find a solution to wake up early/on time every morning. I mentioned in a previous post taht I'm consdiering buying a smart bulb that can wake me up each morning as my alarm goes off - but I'm yet to purcahse!

Thoughts/Insights/Life Hacks?

Thanks

Never understood this, I prefer the FB website.

    • I find the website is a bit glitchy when I try to upload a photo or write a post etc.

Anyway, I'm yet to find a solution to wake up early/on time every morning.

Try the revolutionary technique of getting enough sleep.

    • I'm listening…tell me more?

        Get an alarm clock?

      • +2

Create your schedule so that it doesn't disrupt your circadian rhythm, reduce exposure to light (especially blue light) in the leadup to sleep, preferably mediate and perform some progressive muscle relaxation in total darkness an hour or so before sleeping etc

        Get a baby.

      • Get older. You won't sleep.

    • Impossible!

Seriously though, I feel like I'm part cat or something because I can never get enough sleep. After a reasonably solid 10 hours, I could still stay in bed and snooze the rest of the day away.

Don't have kids then I assume?

You only need one list in calendar and you can improve motivation too. Here's how: Category 2 items are entered as normal. For category 1 items, enter them for most suitable time during the day. If you get to an item sooner, good you can delete it. If you have to postpone, then you have to edit the entry. You are not allowed to delete it until done. For category 3 items, put in the first step of the task at the most suitable time. E.g. if you want to take a holiday, the first step might be: check OzBargain for deals. As with category 1, if you finish it sooner good, if you have to postpone you have to edit. When that's done, you don't delete the entry, but edit it to the next step and reschedule.

The danger of putting non-specific todos in category 3 is that they turn into round tuits. That's a form of procrastination.

  • I've got a lot of productivity life hacks.

Unfortunately I've found a way around most of them. Hmmm, it's 12.06 AM now…

    • Use one email account for important stuff and a separate one for shopping/spam.
    • Set up a clothes rail in laundry. Hang washed clothes directly onto coat hangers and onto rail. Then transfer to wardrobe when dry.
    • Turn TV off at the wall. You're less likely to watch or switch it on impulsively. Plus it saves stand by power.
    • Get rid of all those loyalty cards in your wallet and instead use an app like Stocard.
    • Keep some convenience meals at work for a cheap and easy lunch when you want to save on eating out or forget to bring lunch from home. E.g. frozen meals, tinned soup or instant noodles or all of the above.
    • Heat knife over toaster to spread butter faster and more easily.
    • This car sun visor sunglasses clip is under $1 and can be used one-handed… https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Auto-Car-Sun-Visor-Glasses-S…
    • Keep a spare pair of $5 sunnies in the car.
    • Keep breath mints in car.
    • Park dirty car outside during a downpour. (But NOT a hailstorm). Wash car during said downpour if desired.
    • Learn to use OzBargain to reduce your impulse to buy stuff just because it's cheap.
    • This.

Thank you. This is what I was hoping for. Some of these are really insightful, some I already use, and some that aren't too suitable for me personally.

But thanks for sharing. I love it!

      • A few more:

        • Stock up on staple groceries when on special or half price. Where else can you get a guaranteed 50% return on investment?
        • Use a credit card for expenses to take advantage of the interest free period and keep your own money in your savings or offset account to earn some extra dollars. But do NOT spend more just because you have a credit card.
        • Buy off peak. Travel and take leave during the off season (outside school holidays) or shoulder season (e.g. late January) and your money can go twice as far or more. Get Easter eggs after Easter and same with Christmas merchandise.

Today we have many time saving innovations. And even more for time wasting.

  • Sorry i only know unproductivity hacks..i can tell you how to get good at some certain android games though which i just realized might be counter productive

We need a wiki for this.

How much does everything cost all up for people that don't know

      Getting licence
      Insurance and greenslip costs
Recommended models and price of new/used
      Realistic maintenance costs
      Fuel consumption
Availability and cost of parking, if applicable
Is an e-bike or e-bike-hybrid more economical or less value or less reliable?
Does a helmet ruin your hair?
Does a protective jacket make it too uncomfortable in summer and annoying to carry when on foot?
When is a bicycle good enough?

    • It takes extra time to put on and remove protective gear. Riding in the rain is a bit scary and unpleasant IMO. A bike can't carry large items. And it costs extra money if you retain both a car and a motorbike.

  • In terms of waking up on time/ early, during the semester I put my classes early in the morning but during the holidays I just make plans with friends, appointments. I think getting into a routine helps or finding someone to go through the early mornings with you, so you can motivate each other. Other than that there are a few alarm clock apps or motivational apps that can help you like "fabulous: motivate me".

  • Put alarm first to wake up every morning at the same time. After 21 days, it'll become habit and your body will get used to it and you won't need the alarm anymore. Your body will wake up by itself on the time that you usually wake up.
All your plans will work. But you gotta make it as a habit first. And everything will become automatic.
