Car Protection Coating

I've just bought a 2015 car and they tried to sell me a "protection package " and window tinting. I've already sorted the window tinting out separately.

Do car protection coatings really work?

Here's a deal on Groupon:
https://www.groupon.com.au/deals/hi-carwash-3

It uses this product:: Zenulease. http://hicarwash.com.au/car-ceramic-coating-service/

Is this likely to be comparable to the dealers offering?

Also, they tried to sell me some protection service for the seats and carpet. Is there a product I can buy and apply myself?

Thanks!

    No
    And no

    • Thanks for your response and input. Is it all just a scam?

  • No different to selling slushies for $2 where the cup costs more than the drink - something that is made for cents but given an exaggerated value - These protection products are worth about $50 and need to be regularly re-applied to be at all effective

  • Are they still trying to flog those stupid electronic box anti-corrosive things too?

I laughed so hard when some fat chick at a dealer once tried to explain the 'science' to me! ;)

    • No this is a liquid that they paint on.

      • Yeah, I get that…they tried that one on me too; but they also used to upsell these stupid electronic systems that supposedly offered cathodic protection for your panels.

Hopefully they got found out as the snake oil they were & banned…

YES! They tried to sell me the rust box thing and the paint protection at Mazda a year or so ago.
Ended up entitling my way into it all for free plus tinting. Looks like a darn bomb in my bonnet though..

      • Well played! :)

    • I bought 1 of those :( stupid naive young guy I was

      • Well, at least you've got submarine defence technology! ;)

The guy left the office and I whispered to my 14 yo, that "this is where they make all their money" she snorted semi-contemptuously and said, "that's pretty obvious" 😂

Don't get it from dealers, they are overpriced crap. I however got Opti-coat on both my new cars. One has been still perfect, three years since purchase. The other one I got the coating done in December.

Costs around $850 for sedans and around $900 for large SUVs.

The dealer tried to sell me the electronic rust protection when I purchased my last 4WD. Told them I've been using fish oil to spray underbody since forever and unless they can beat my 2 cans of $5 quote am not interested. :P
