After receiving some ridiculously high quotes for an adjustable louvered pergola (ie; openable roof over deck) I thought of building it myself. The quotes I received were in the $20-30k range for a 6m x 2m space FYI.

Has anyone tried building these types of adjustable pergolas themselves?
This is for a north facing deck so we want to have light coming in to the house during Winter but have the option of closing the roof during other months. The louvre adjustment doesn't have to be motorized, more than happy with a mechanical/manual system.
