Good Schoolbag Deals - Laptop-Style Backpack?

My Daughter starts high school this year and I am after a good schoolbag for her - preferably at a good price.

I'm thinking of a tech/style backpack with good ergonomic straps,a number of compartments, especially as she will be carting an iPad pro around so a good protective pouch for that. - An insulated area for food would be good too.
Any deals around or any decent suggestions?

fwiw I am staying away from messenger bag style as they are a health concern for school kids.

Cheers

I bought a great one from Aldi at the beginning of last year, to carry my school netbook and associated cords, all my classwork and correction (I'm a teacher) and other assorted "stuff". It has a chest and waist strap as well as adjustable padded shoulder straps. It has an insulated compartment, and a separate computer section (with a number of internal pockets), and a "bag" section. It has two drink bottle holders. There is also a grab loop and an earphone port. Best of all it was about $20! It has withstood some pretty heavy loads and daily usage and has not shown any signs of wear and tear.

I was going to say it would be worth keeping your eye but then decided to check the Aldi catalogue and found them advertised in the Back to School range that went on sale TODAY! https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/back-to-school-wed-1…

If you aren't anywhere close to an Aldi (or in a state that doesn't have one) I'd be happy to pop in and grab one for you. They seem to be either a dusky blue or khaki green.

    cheers, Caz

    • I have an Aldi nearby - I'll check it out :)

  • HP backpacks are pretty good quality. My last one survived 8 years.

Targus are quite good too. A few of them come with that insulated pocket at the front too for lunch boxes.

    • +1 for that. HP's backpacks are much better than their laptops.

      • Unless you get an elitebook/Zbook

Herschel backpack Pop Quiz have a padded laptop sleeve (up to 15") and has a bunch of compartments. They are stylish (a lot of people own them at my uni), but they are quite pricey :\

People are just paying for a brand, also quality of their bags have gone downhill. $80+ for a backpack is just ridiculous.

  • You could get an Anello bag, it's a Japanese brand + they're really blowing up in Asia. https://www.groupon.com.au/deals/uds-global-limited-83472064

Check out the Dakine Campus backpack. Or spend a little more for a Spartan ergonomic backpack. My kids small spartan lasted the whole of primary school so I got a bigger spartan for high school which lasted till y12 . I bought them off eBay new for about $50, although uniform shops sell them for much much more..

  • I ended up getting a High Sierra Access which does the job well.

  • Samsonite make a good laptop backpack. Probably not the most stylish and will cost you $$$ but good quality from Samsonite.
