ING Direct different referrals

Hi everyone, just wondering whether you have received an email if you are with ING direct regarding their most recent referrals? What's interesting is that anyone I refer will get $100 but for others I know, one has $50 and another will only get $25. Wondering if there is anyone who will get more than $100 when they refer?

  • What does the referee get if they sign up too?

    • whatever you get. Eg $100, $50 or $75

      • I was planning on opening an account with ING anyhow, PM me your referral code.

      • Are you sure?
The email I got makes no mention of the new customer getting anything…
The previous emails made it very clear it was $75 each.

Not only will your friends love saving on fees, you'll love the $75 bonus you'll get when they open an account and follow the steps below. (Don't forget to shout them a coffee for coming to the party!)

        • There must be different versions/campaigns.

  • mines still only 75

For those that have a referral code, if you use this address and replace it with your code, you and your friend MAY get the $100 https://www.campaigns.ingdirect.com.au/bonus100?code=(ADD CODE HERE)

I got my mates to sign up via this trick, but I only got the $50 I was originally offered. I believe your code is tied to what you get offered in your original email.

      • what did your mate end up getting?

        • +1

They all got $50. Now they think I owe them another on top!

  • +1

Mine is only $50. I've referred a few people already…you would think I would be rewarded for that not penalised…odd.

My code is $100, how to I add my refer code to the list? I clicked your link but can't work out how to add mine (only generate a new one)

      • No codes. Just hit the checkbox so people can pm you.

I haven't gotten any promo emails from ING direct about the new round of promos but I do know what my promo code is so will try sending it to friends under the $100 bonus and see what happens..

    • It has been a month, what is the result of that experiment?

      • Doesn't work mate, the codes are locked/targeted so can't bypass it by just putting in your code.

  • Mine went down to $25 :(

    • how many have you successfully referred?

      • None! I haven't seen any referral payments in my ING ever since the referral promotion started.

    • Mine drops to $25 as well, but the referee still gets $75

      • That's so random…

        • No it's discrimination, have to contact the ombudsman ;)

  • I just got the email too for the referral bonus of $100. As OP noted, it is a different link to the one utilised in the automated ING referral system - still $75 for that one.

I see "ozbargain" mentioned in the terms and conditions

If you use this offer in a manner that is not satisfactory to us or in line with the intent of the offer (such as sharing your referral code on the ‘OzBargain’ website or other similar websites, or advertising or marketing your referral code), we may refuse to pay the cash bonus (including in respect of any or all referrals made in relation to the offer). This includes conduct on your part which is designed to undermine the fair and intended operation of the offer.

I dont get why they have a prob with it. They would have gained a huge amount of business through ozbargain. Personally i've not been happy with the move to ing at all and regret it.

      • I think the issue is with people who just open the account to get the free $100 and then never use it again.
Curious as to why you aren't happy with the move to ING? I've been banking with them for a while and have nothing bad to say about them

        • +1

Getting a home loan with them is a whole different experience and absolutely horrible.
My other main problem with them is I was trying to teach my mother how to phonebank and internet bank and we rang their customer service to get her set up and the guy was really rude and saying if i was in the room with her that was not allowed as i would see her pin and didnt matter if she gave permission. He actually cancelled her pin after we called without letting us know. I'd spent years trying to get her online and to update her banking and he did that so its never gonna happen now.
But the home loan experience, thats 10 times worse.

        • +1

@DisabledUser68451: I had a similar experience, but to be fair, it is a good practice that the bank is following and enforcing privacy and security guidelines.

What you and your mum/anyone else share is a different matter, post fact.

  • I have also received the email for the referral bonus of $100 for both. It will be ended by 31 March 2017 and/or limited to the first 10,000 eligible applicants.

  • Mine says 25 for me and 75 for the newby. Any chance they've picked up the ozbargainers from the referral page and penalised?

  • Mine says $75

  • I also got $100 for me and new account.

  • I had $75 for the previous promotion back in Dec'16.

Just got an email yesterday for new promotion for $100

  • The mods been investigating this as we've been getting loads of referral SPAM. ING in the past have not been happy with referral links coming from OzBargain and even include that in their referral emails. It looks like they are targeting different people with different offers (and different links).

However, what's not clear is if you amend your code into those links if the referrer OR the referee will get the money. For example, I received no emails so potentially my account could be giving $0 referrals.

I've contacted ING Direct to get some clarification but my guess is that they purposely did this to make sure their campaigns are working as they intend.

    • +2

thanks for looking into it Neil

      • So their response?

If you become eligible for any promotions, you will receive an email from us, so make sure that you keep your email address up to date.

        Non-answer.

        • I also asked them about not receiving a code and they said will just have to wait for next promotions and that they won't be able to add me on to the current promotion. I'm guessing if I push really hard they might do it but I'm not a fan of being a nuisance

  • Slightly off-topic, but I referred 3 people in December after I got the email saying we'd both get $75.
How long does this money usually take to come through?
It's been about 3 weeks now and still nothing.

    • Can't remember, but that sounds a bit long. Are you sure your friends put in some money as per the T+C's? Did they get it and you didn't? Or have they not got it either? I would check with your friends and then if they have deposited enough money, check with ING. I guess there is a small possibility that they already gave out to 10,000 customers???

      • Just checked with them, they all got it.
        I still haven't :(

        • did you post your referral code on ozbargain? maybe they stopped you referral but still gave it to those that you referred?

        • @user27: It actually came though. I didn't see it because I was searching for $75, but they batched all my referrals in one payment.
And yeah, I'm in the ozbargain automated referral system

  • I got the email, $100 for me and $100 for the new account.

    • Yeah looks like a few people including myself are getting the $100 referral bonus but others are getting lower amounts like $25 or $75.

  • How long did it take for people to receive the bonus $75? Does it come at the same time for both the referee and referred?

    • Not too sure how long it takes, I remember forgetting about it then was pleasantly surprised to see the bonus. The friends I recently sent the referral link/code for the bonus of $100 said they have not received it, but it's only been a week or so, so probably too soon

  • Hi Guys, i hope i am not breaking any rules here nor I want to. I am planning to sign up with ING and obviously i would prefer $100 over $75 credit. question is how can i go about this. I don't want to break rules or something. can i jut signup and call them back for $100 credit. interested to know if there are any people who managed to get $100 signup recently…

    many thanks

    • You can try calling them to ask…they can be quite helpful on the phone. Better to find out first to avoid disappointment, Failing that, you could ask someone here. Several people have said that they received the email for the referral bonus

      • thanks for that.

  • I just got the email today for the referral bonus of $100. Time to find long lost friends :-)

  • +2

Mine is $50 per referral BUT for my fifth referral I get a bonus $75 on top of that $50. This continues for every 5th referral thereafter. They are doing some A/B testing - pretty cool. They are looking to find the best offer to maximise new accounts while minimising the bonuses they pay out.

  • Interesting. I also got an email for referral bonus of $100 and the code looks the same as before. I guess for people with $50 or $75 referrals, 1x$50 or 1x$75 would still be better than 0x$100.

  • more confusing. I've got two codes 1x $100 and 1x$50. Hard to see there is logic to it or than just random selections.

  • Got an email for $100 referral. Link to promo: http://ingdirect.com.au/bonus100

    • I think that a moderator will give you a good smack! No posting personal referral links!

      • Nah, that's just a generic link to the offer site with terms and conditions :-)

        • +1

Ahhh! Got it! Give myself an uppercut!

  • Just got an email from them saying that a referee and I can get $100 now.
Sucks because I just referred several people for $75 :(

  • How long does it take for the $100 to arrive after all the conditions are met?

    • I think it varies.

      From website:

When will I get my $100 bonus?
The bonus will be paid the month after you meet the eligibility requirements.

    • my bonus $75 came around 2 weeks after depositing $1000. hope this helps.

  • Does anyone know if there is a maximum amount of people you can refer with the $100 bonus? I saw that in the past it was 5 max referrals.

  • does anyone have 100$ bonus referrel i can use, pls pm me

    • You seem to have PM turned off. You need to turn it on in your user profile settings.

      • done thanks

  • Quite strange for people to get different referral amounts.

I've received another email for the $100 referral bonus again. Seems like they just keep renewing the offer.

  • +1

lol, ok, comments get hidden automatically just because I said that the randomiser generates links of the form ending in "/refer?code=XXXXXX" (which only go to $75 bonusses) when the $100 bonuses are of the form ending in "/happy100?code=XXXXX#="

again XXXXXX is the dummy for the code (which I used in the first post to try and not get it hidden, but it was hidden automatically).

I just tried a few examples, and I think you can just copy and paste the six digit code (from the link generated by the randomiser) and copy it into the second link format above, and put it into a different browser and press enter, and the site should come up showing the $100 bonus (probably even if the person has not been actually sent an email about the $100 referral link? It could be a standard format that everyone has, but they only start emailing you the $100 format after a while).

    • Won't work. ING are monitoring OzBargain and it's mentioned at the bottom of all the referral emails they send out. The problem with us changing $75 to $100 is that they all show as working no matter what code you put in. So for example, if my link is for $25 but I put in the $100 format, ING will know this and won't credit either party. They have done this on purpose to make sure referrals are truly referrals. It might be best if we remove ING Direct from the referral system all together.

See this comment for some of the formats.

      • Editing codes aside
How do they tell if you've used oz bargain or not?
It's just a generic link that you give to other people.
To offer a promo and to have someone. Monitor a website ambiguously seems ludicrous and pointless for the promo?

It's like Dan Murphy staff monitoring ozb in case some people use cash rewards and 5% off wish gift cards simultaneously

        • Check out the emails they send out. OzBargain is specifically mentioned:

If you use this offer in a manner that is not satisfactory to us or in line with the intent of the offer (such as sharing your referral code on the 'OzBargain' website or other similar websites, or advertising or marketing your referral code), we may refuse to pay the cash bonus (including in respect of any or all referrals made in relation to the offer). This includes conduct on your part which is designed to undermine the fair and intended operation of the offer.

        • @neil:

          Yes very true.

          But how do they know

I guess they might scan the site and if they find your code there they may void your claim

  • I got the $100 one again too

  • I'd like to sign up and use a $100 code, but how do I know from OZB's ING referral system if I'm going to get a $100 code, or a lesser amount code?

  • Just an update on ING Direct. We have discussed this and made the following changes.

    • Posting of ING Direct deals are permanently banned due to 90% of the deals being posted as referral spam. If there is a deal, that is not listed on the ING Direct store page (and not a referral), then please contact a mod.
    • ING Direct referrals have been disabled from our automated referral system. I've listed the reasons above but to reiterate:

      • ING Direct have been including warning messages in all referral emails: If you use this offer in a manner that is not satisfactory to us or in line with the intent of the offer (such as sharing your referral code on the 'OzBargain' website or other similar websites, or advertising or marketing your referral code), we may refuse to pay the cash bonus (including in respect of any or all referrals made in relation to the offer). This includes conduct on your part which is designed to undermine the fair and intended operation of the offer.
      • There are multiple links for referrals and unfortunately you can interchange the codes with the other pages without their system saying it will not work.
      • Due to the above + the warning from ING direct, referrers and referees are missing out on this credit.
      • Having a look at our AmEx Referrals in the system, there are many who have tried to game the system by putting their referral for their one credit card in all slots. If it happens there, it will happen with ING Direct referrals.
      • If someone does offer you a referral, perhaps ask to see a copy of the original email.

Meanwhile, we are making improvements of the referral system for all stores. In particular, we would like to have some referrals be available by PM (private message), which may suit well for ING Direct albeit you still need to trust the person sending you the referral but at least this way you may be able to ask for more information.

Again, this thread is not for soliciting referrals, it is for discussion.

    • Having a look at our AmEx Referrals in the system, there are many who have tried to game the system by putting their referral for their one credit card in all slots. If it happens there, it will happen with ING Direct referrals.

I really hate unscrupulous people like that. Why can't people just play nice and most importantly, DECENT? :(

      • Holy Smoke, do people really do that? That is so Friggin' Low.

  • OK, another update.

We have switched on the ING Direct Referrals but have switched over to a PM system. So if someone want a referral link, it will send a message to someone listed in the system. The 2 users can then figure out what offer the referrer has been offered and go from there.

I strongly urge new users to verify details of the offer with the referrer as there are a number of different links and codes.

As for referees, everyone who was in the system originally is still in there. Feel free to take yourself out. The system chooses those who are active on the site to send PMs to. It's a work in progress so feedback is welcome.

    ING Direct Referral System

  • I have a $100 code but can't work out how to add it anywhere. Can anyone enlighten me?

    • +1

      The way that I understand it;
You don't put in your code. You go to 'settings' 'referrals'
      click on ING.
      And you should get:-
"Your referral link and code should be emailed directly to you from ING Direct.
      Private Message
(tick here) Allow referees to contact me via Private Message."

Then ING referees will get a randomly generated PM contact. And they PM you (if you are the lucky one) and you PM them your code.

      • So all i have to do is click the tick box? Great, done that already! Thanks for replying :)

        • +1

          That's what I did anyway.

  • " if my link is for $25 but I put in the $100 format, ING will know this and won't credit either party."
"The 2 users can then figure out what offer the referrer has been offered and go from there."
Therefore it is important for the referee to know which offer they are applying for.

    • Basically the referree should trust that the referrer will gain nothing pretending to have a higher offer than they really do

      • There are a bunch of unscrupulous people on here… Most are decent but many aren't. They ruin it for everyone else.

I've got my email from ing for the $100 so I think people asking to be referred should ask to see the email. I think that's just smart.

        • Ditto. I agree

        • Agreed, I have the $100 and wouldn't mind sending a screenshot or something to the referee for their peace of mind

  • +1

Great idea with the new referral set up.

  • Yea i got a reffer code for $100 but if someone used it there is no way they would know. Ing should let the referee know what they signing up for.

  • ING must have renewed their promotion again. Just got an email with a $100 referral code.

    • I think that it is ongoing.
They are continually (Weekly?) sending me my $100 referral code but it is always the same.
I consider that it is just a reminder.

      • Yeah its ongoing. I have been getting the same $100 referral code everyweek for a while now.

        • Yeah I just got my $100 email offer again! Lol. Maybe the market is saturated.

  • Please use the ING Direct Referral System

Soliciting for referrals or commenting with your code in the comments is not permitted.

Amazing. Rhani89 signs up to OzB. today just to publish their email address for ING referrals. Probably the last that we will hear from them!!

  • I haven't received a referral code since 2016, is there a reason for this or anything I can do to get one?

    • I would be also interested in this; where can I generate a referral code or find my referral code to share with family?

  • Appears ING may have lowered the $ amount from their referral bonus. Just got an email saying referals are now $25
