Cheap SMS & Call Forwarding While Overseas

Hi guys,

I am trying to find if there is any easier and cost effective/free option available to forward the calls and SMS from one overseas phone number to the other. Scenario is person is migrating to Australia for few years o and keen to have their old phone running in original country and forward their SMS as email if possible and calls as well.

The phone they leaving behind will have Android on it and receiving phone in Australia is Iphone. they do understand the old phone need to have enough credit/balance (if that's required) to forward SMS or calls however given this will be active for years prefer
it to be cost effective.

I've looked at few options on Google but they seem bit dodgy. any one used any services/app they can recommend?

many thanks

  • do you need the ability to answer sms/calls as well?

    • No reply required for SMS and answer Call if possible)….But hey even if I know who called I can call them back from here. No big deal there

      • for SMS, you can definitely use PushBullet, it also shows you the notifications so I'm guessing it can show you the calls you missed. You need to be connected to internet though but I'm guessing that's a given?

        • Great. I'll give this a go…..thanks for that. I am not sure about how miss call works on this but let you know..

  • Get a voip account and forward your calls to voip number, which can access from anywhere in the world? :)

    • can you pls provide details on mechanics of this….so I get voip number where in Aus? My landline is voip if that helps…how do you forward the call from overseas country to voip?

      • In your example, if your friend is in Germany with active sim, get a voip account in Germany (originating country), so calls between mobile and voip will be standard call chargers not IDD.

Enable the call forward in mobile account, so it will redirect your calls to voip number.
Enable message bank in your voip account, to record messages when your voip is offline.

Then you can use your username/password to access your voip account from anywhere in the world, even most android phones you can setup voip connection.

For SMS, you probably able to find a sms forwarding app. I don't think these days overseas sms cost that much.

  • I tried this with mightytext to monitor on pc. I could get it do to sms but not calls, but think it can. May be worth a look?

    • Thanks. I'll check this out.
