School Shoes etc

Daughter starting pre kindy and want to grab here shoes and recommendations on buying shoes she be 5 yrs on in august.
She is around a size 12.
I noticed target have as well as bigw, kmart etc.
Any difference between these retailers ie quality i see target are a lithe more than bigw and kmart.
But im unsure of the brands.
Im thinking the cheaper the better as it her age im sure they not long.
Or is it best to get quality ones when she is older.
Was thinking of getting her feet fitted somewhere making them think we are planning on buying and then try and see what these store have to offer and what there sizing is like.
It just be usefull to get her proper feet size anyway.

  • Athlete's foot or somewhere like that will measure people up properly.

I'd suggest checking Spend-Less shoes as an alternative to non-specialist retail stores.

  • Depending on where you are - http://www.fswshoes.com.au/

Normally I've seen a large and extensive collection of shoes here.

Might be worthwhile to have a look?

  • I have tried cheaper shoes but I found they were stuffed in 6-12 weeks. Admittedly they were $20 whereas Atheletes Foot shoe is about $80 - so technically you could just buy 2 lots of cheap shoes at a time.

  • aldi

  • Bought a pair of all black Fila trainer which looks very much like school shoes for my daughter. I used to buy Reebok walking shoes for her and never buy any traditional school shoes 'cos they are expansive, heavy, not breathable and not comfortable. Her school doesn't mind. I can't imagine my daughter wearing one of the heavy shoes to school with no cushion in it and gets her feet sweat under 3x-40 degrees in summer. Besides, even Clarks doesn't last for a year, is it worth investing $150 for a pair of shoes? If you shop around, you will find more choices other than Kmart and Target.

  • We've always bought decent shoes for school. Clarks mostly at around $70-80. Have them properly fitted as your kid will spend a big proportion of their time in school shoes. They need to be big enough to grow into, but not to big. They need also to suit wide or narrow feet, which may mean you are limited to a particular brand.

Our kids typically have got the leather jogger type black shoes, the school (rightly) doesn't require the traditional style leather school shoe, recognising they may not suit all feet or level of activity. Until last year our kids shoes have lasted the full year (just). Child 2 is tough on shoes and had worn out the fronts. Bought cheapies ($25) to last for about 2/3 of the last term.

  • School shoes don't last. Especially for my boys. Clarks , Grosby, aldi, whatever. Although I end up buying mostly clarks as my kids have really wide feet.
