Received Replacement Order and Original from Amazon - Pay for Return Shipping

Hello all,

I ordered a 525gb ssd from Amazon France at the end of November 2016. By December 28th I hadnt received the order so I contacted Amazon who refunded my postage and recommended I contact them again if I hadn't received the order two days later. I didn't receive anything, so they offered to send me a new unit.

I agreed and received the new ssd a couple of weeks later.

Today, my first order turned up. Not being sure which order this was, I signed for the delivery. Realising it was the original ssd, I contacted Amazon France.

They apologized and ask I send it back. At first they said I should just print their return sticker and send it. The sticker they got me to print asks for me to pay for postage. I explained to them I am in Australia and asked they give me an international prepaid sticker. They explained there wasn't such a thing and that I'd have to pay for return postage to France, and they'll refund me for it.

I don't feel like chasing up an elusive refund on postage for weeks. How does Amazon even process refunds of this sort anyway?

Any ideas on what I should do? They were easy to deal with by sending me a replacement unit, so I'd like to do the same and give them back what is theirs, but not if it costs me anything…

Edit: I've contacted Amazon and will actually buy the SSD from them minus shipping costs. So €78 for a 525GB SSD. Not too shabby!

Hell no. They should pay for it.

    • They claim they'll pay me back if I include a copy of the receipt for shipping but that seems like a dubious claim. How do they plan on executing the refund? I agree though, they should make things easier

      • Just FYI I bought something from Amazon US and needed to send it back. They did the same and asked me to pay for shipping. I just went to online chat and sent them a photo of the receipt. They instantly credited me back to the card I had linked with my Amazon account. It was literally 5 mins effort. Just for future reference as I have seen you are now buying it.

I had a similar situation. They don't have a pre-paid return label from Australia to France which is understandable as they wouldn't have this setup with every country around the world. I paid upfront and told them how much it was. They issued a refund of what I paid without even asking to see a receipt. It was very quick and no hassle. I wouldn't be worried.

    • Could you explain how you did things? Did you have to nominate a credit card number?

      • I sent the item back and then called customer service offering to email a copy of the receipt. They said that the amount 'sounded right' and issued the refund to my credit card which I used for the original purchase. You may need to send email but it all happens very quickly.

They will just reimburse the postage costs back to your credit card once you email them a copy of the receipt, it's a simple process, no need to over analyse.

Amazon are trustworthy, they will pay you back.

Mind, you might find you can sell it here for more than you paid originally.

    • I don't know if I have an option to purchase it from them… wouldn't mind though

    • I hadn't thought about buying it. So I offered Amazon to buy it at the original sale price and they ok'd it. Sweet! Thanks for the suggestion

  • They did the right thing by promptly supplying an additional item when the first one went missing, why wouldn't they do the right thing here?
