Elliptical Machine for Home Use

Looking for a deal on an elliptical machine - for home use. Need to shed the weight of the significant other's excellent cooking.

Currently looking around on Gumtree but open to a retail store that has a reasonable offer.

Budget upto 250 AUD for the right machine - but if found for cheaper also happy.

Thanks in advance!

If you don't mind buying online, you can pick up a very basic cardio machine from Klika.com.au or Crazysales.com.au <$150. I would not expect much of durability, though and the weight limit is usually 100kg, which might not be enough if you are trying to loose a few. The cheapest from Kogan.com.au is $259, but you will have to add another $30-50 shipping, which puts it over your budget.

You could also buy second hand, elliptical trainers on ebay or gumtree are $60-100 if you can pick them up.

If you are looking for a bricks and mortar store I don't know of any under $300, eg. Rebel or Amart Sports, which have a similar cardio equipment range - quality is not brilliant at entry level, (you would need to pay close to $2k for a commercial grade unit).

Keep in mind that elliptical trainers are not suitable for homes with young children, there are several parts that can cause serious injury to curious kids.

    • Have taken a look around - and agree.

The biggest challenge is actually seeing a number of decent machines available on Gumtree for affordable rates (100 to 150 AUD) - it's the whole, "if it will work properly and does it fold up to fit in a car" question.

No kids yet - just realise that with current work schedule easier to work out at home rather than pay for a gym that requires discipline in leaving work on time.

  • I find the easiest way to lose weight is monitor my calories and eat less food. Doing hours of cardio sounds horrible. Much easier to just go a little hungry so your body slowly eats away its fat reserves.

    • I agree with this, weight loss is 80% food, 20% exercise. Although there is such a thing as consuming too few calories, when you do this, your body thinks it is starving & clings to all your fat stores!
