Termguard Pest Control Solution and Inspection

I have been a new home owner and the builder installed the TermGuard pest control system with the outside building barrier (pipes) with solution (some liquid)inject holes. These pest control people come every 3-years to topup the solution and every year for internal inspection. The liquid topup every 3-year is $300+ and every year inspection is around $150. I am not sure whether this is really necessary as the house came with the premium quality treated pines for frames etc. I even asked one of the inspectors and he was kinda gave me a vague answer and said its upto me if something goes wrong.

To my fellow ozbargainer, is this really worth paying or needs less frequent checkups given its a new house and the internal frames are already treated with high quality by the builder. Or this is something a scam these builders and pest control people are forking out money.

Appreciate the response as got the solution top very soon so can decide should I go for it or not. Many thanks

To keep the warranty on Termguard you're required to have the yearly checks. If you stop the yearly checks or reduce the frequency, you lose the warranty. Up to you to decide if the odds of termites are low enough that you don't need Termguard.

hellbound is correct. If you want to keep the TermGuard warranty then you need the yearly checks.

I'd bet if you maintained the yearly inspection & worse comes to worst & a claim was made, they'd wiggle out of it anyway with some excuse. Just forget the yearly inspections & get the fluid topped up every 3 years. She'll be right.

  • Thanks guys. And this is something is worrying me as these player in the market will create some excuse to not look into the issue is a warranty is made. I doubt at what level support will be provided if the house/me unfortunate to have the termites. Wouldn't they try to avoid somehow???

@Youfez: Any chance you may know the fluid topup usually keeps the termite away from the house. Because when I asked them I got mixed messages specially for the inspections.
