What to do when someone illegally parks in your parking spot?

Hey guys,

I found out that someone has been sneakily parking in my spot while I go to work. I live in an apartment building and have complained to the building manager but he just said there's nothing much he can do about it as it's not part of his jurisdiction. I have since stuck a note on my parking area saying "Private parking," to fend off the driver but he has continued to park at my area. Any suggestions to get rid of this person? Cheers.

The number of people suggesting damage, including some that might risk lives is disturbing. I hope it's all just talk.

      Definitely not talk mate.
We are a bunch of hard asses.
Our cover is to just be on the constant look out for bargains during the day, then at night we cause damage and violence.

Just rent it out for cheap during your work hours. Surely someone will be willing to pay as it sounds like a popular spot

  • Contract a parking enforcement firm to police your park for a month. They'll take care of issuing all infringement notices and whoever it is will soon stop ad it will cost them too much money.

Personally, i would put a broom in the boot of my car. Reverse out of the spot in the morning and pour a jar of screws over the car space. Then use the broom in the afternoon to push them to the side.

You havent slashed their tyres and its their choice to park on top of them.

Happened to me multiple times. I usually took a photo of the car (multiple angles) and the rego.
Lucky my apartment has cctv and has the policy to disable the swipe key of whomever gave access to that car, so I usually printed some copies, one I give to my building manager, the others I post in my elevator's notice board, mailbox area, and left a copy in the offending car's bonet (with a note, politely asking them not to park there or I'll get their swipe keys disabled).

  • Cant you call a tow truck?
If there is a sign that says unauthorised vehicle will be towed I don't see the problem.

Maybe just show some type of identification to show that its your spot?

  • 1)leave a note on windshield.
    2)contact them in person.
    3)knife the tyre.
    4)buy spot blocker.
    5)hire a sniper.

Buy one of these and put it on the car, http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/like/111351820703?lpid=107&chn=ps

Put a note on the dashboard to contact the body corporate of your building, don't leave your number, let body corporate fight it out thats what they are there for. Body corporate can talk to you to remove the clamp, explain to body corporate that they need to do there job, and every time a car illegally parks in your spot you will clamp it. After all you pay for it.

  • It's definitely the building managers responsibility to find out who is using your park and ensure they stop it. They are supposed to manage all of these situations and if your building manager is trying to pass the buck I'd call your property manager (from whatever real estate company you're with) and let them know your park is being used and that the building manager isn't doing anything about it. I had the same situation in my last place and was lucky that it stopped as soon as I left a note saying I'd have them towed if they returned (probably not possible given getting to the park requires going up a car lift! 😂)

Far out… it's sad that so many people are suggesting vandalising the car (fish sauce, milk, etc).

When I was a naive country boy, I drove into a large regional coastal holiday town one day and unknowingly parked in someones car spot in a villa unit complex. I had no idea they were allocated in such a way, as my whole life there were plenty of car spaces, no restrictions at all, and everyone can just park whereever you want. They not only fish sauced my car, but also wrapped shit filled undies around my tow bar. I had no idea why they had done this to me! If someone had have said something or left a note I would have apologised and moved it right away.

Just grow some balls and talk to them about it! Are people really that scared/socially awkward to talk to 'strangers' these days?

      Perfect.

  • Don't forget to keep us updated on your action!

    • Very few posters do. Bad manners I think.

      • They should get some sort of punishment for doing that.

  • If you OWN the spot you can fit a parking bollard something like Below. We used to have them at an apartment complex I lived many years ago, they were there before I moved in.

How did you find out there's someone using your space if they arrive after you leave and leave before you arrive?

  • +1

that happened to me before, I made the person paid for it lol, I waited for him to come back to his car , he was moving stuff, and my car park is the closest to the lift that why he parked there, then I lectured him about trespassing and cost of inconvenience , he offered to compensate me after that, took out cash from his pocket, I accepted it and let him stay another hour to finish moving his stuff.

  • Someone just got parked in at my apartment block carpark. Serves them right for parking in someones spot.

  • There is something called ground lock or so.

BIGHT BACK! These people learn really quick.
Your comments were genuine, and appropriate. But many people think the formula to life is much too simple.
Anyway best wishes. Ozbargainers can be right witchy at times.

Open the fuel tank and throw a ping pong ball in to it.

Whilst his tank of fuel is full all's well. Once the tank is below a certain level (< 1/2) the ping pong ball works its way to the intake area and blocks the fuel line, shutting the car off…

Evil, very. Useful to know, very. :)

    • Also mean causing damage to the car, not that easy to access the fuel tank, even if you you can, fuel entrance can only fit the nozzle which is much smaller than the ping pong ball, even for diesel car.

  • This thread might be a new ozbargain low. What a bunch of whiny pushovers. All these disgusting threats for what a parking space that OP isnt even using.

  • Get wheel clamps
The vehicle has been abandoned on your property
