Comfortable Work/Formal Shoes Brands - Any Reccomendations

I'm after a pair of new work/formal shoes. Happy to wait for a discount/sales, but would like a general idea what brands to keep an eye out for.

Looking to spend anything up to $200.

    florsheim

    • Yep. Specifically Cage. They might not last too long (a few years depending on average kms per day) given their relatively thin sole. But I bought two pairs when they were 50% off a couple of years ago.

Note: Not very cushion-y if you need to walk a lot.

      • If you take care of the uppers you can resole the shoe for about 30-40.

    • +1 just threw out a pair this weekend.
They ran formal duties for 5 years, then another 3 years in daily wear at work.
Sole wore completely through at the ball of the foot (my hardest wear point). Could have re-soled, but the upper was getting pretty thin around the neck of the shoe, especially at the back where the stitching had worn through.
My replacement pair of Formal shoes (also Florsheim) have now migrated down to work shoes and I need to keep an eye out for another Florsheim sale!

      $100 ($200 RRP bought at 50%)/ 8 years = $12.50/year

I think the design is "Lynch".. made from kangaroo leather which is soft from day 1. Steer clear of the Brogue style with the seam across the flex point of the toes/foot.. That seam takes a beating over the years, so I've learned to buy shoes that have no seam across the foot in that area.

    • Second this. I'm picky with my shoes, florshiem is the only brand I can find here in aus that I have been happy with. There is Clarkes aswell but I hardly find them here

Not sure how Ecco shoes are for men. Their women and kids shoes are super comfy.

    • They have a good outdoor range. not sure of formal wear.

    • +1 for Ecco shoes. They're super comfy, hubby has some for work. I agree the women's ones are super comfy too, I wear them for work also.

Julius Marlow, Florsheim, Hush Puppies, Rockport are also really good work shoes too.

I usually go hushpupies or clarks as they are a better fit for me and you can find the for about $60 in outlet stores.

Hush puppies are nice but not generally fashionable.

    • +1 for hush puppies. they have a lot of "technology" to help with comfort

  • I have a pair of rock port slip ons, bought them at trade secret for $70ish 1.5 years ago and still look new. With adiprene insole are very comfy. Think they retail for near the $200 mark though.

  • For ladies, I recommend Naturalizer.
