HTC Vive $1271.20 Delivered @ PC Byte eBay (COMMIT20) 20% OFF Code

120
COMMIT20

This is the cheapest I have seen for an HTC Vive. Been looking to buy one since I first got to try the demo @ the MS store in Sydney about 6 months ago.

Current price comparisons:

Vive.com - $1356
PCCG - $1368 (Cheapest local)

This is almost a $100 saving over the cheapest local distributor, time to get in.

  • microsoft also have it for 1299, not sure for how long (mine literally just showed up at work). This still beats it price wise.

  • Too low stock to be a deal in it's own right (5 available, 6 sold), but Futu are $40 cheaper on the base price ($1,549 vs $1,589)

    oh just love it :)

    properly was pointed out in last 20% off ebay deal few days ago :)
    i would just go to the ms store and pick it up there at least i know im paying a none jacked price.

    • Obvious price inflation is super annoying but if you were PCByte would you really not try and do the same thing? At least it still works out cheaper than anywhere else. But it would be nice if they passed the savings on a little more eh?

      Now that aside lets not forget the crazy fees eBay charge for selling. It's like 10% when everything is said and done so they could be recouping the cost of that as well.

  • Tried a homebrew Occuls Thrift and have been happy with the results. Hooks a Cardboard VR set up to your PC.

    "Trinus VR provides gamers with a high-end virtual reality headset without needing to buy expensive hardware, because you already have the hardware in your pocket. Trinus VR uses the display and sensors of your own phone to transform it into a portal to your PC games. Live your PC games in virtual reality today."

    • Can you move around while using it or do you sit down?

      • If you move around, you will hit something within a few seconds…

          Then it's not like the vive

        • Check out NOLO VR, I know its not as good, but its good enough to join some multiplayer games up to :)

          @em:

          That's not the only sense in which it is not like the Vive. In addition to the absence of positional (in addition to rotational) head-tracking, and positionally tracked motion controllers, you also don't get the low-persistence display or the same properly smooth and fluid visual experience in general. So this claim: "Trinus VR provides gamers with a high-end virtual reality headset without needing to buy expensive hardware"

          is utter bullshit.

          It would be more aptly described as a low-end VR experience with plenty of significant compromises for those who just want to play around instead of shelling out for the premium experience. And for the record I have nothing against that. I did it myself for a while.

        • @cainn: yeah. No issues with people using VR stuff but there's no way anyone can claim something like that is comparable to a Vive. My partner has one and it's pretty damn immersive. A big draw for me is being able to move around and see your hands etc.

    • While this would give you a rough idea of what it might be like its still miles away from the Vive.

      • +1

        But he will save $1000+ for the next Vive, which will be miles away from existing Vive.

        • -1

          but the next vive is miles away.

        • Also compatible with PS VR, so that's a big price difference aswell.
          I believe nearly all games can be played in 3D VR with TrinusVR (+Tridef), not just VR specific games. So it may also have that going for it, not something I'm sure the Vive features.

          @chyawala:

          But its not really real VR at all if you compare it to the vive…

        • +1

          @chyawala: The vive is the full experience, motion tracking and all.
          TrinusVR is a sub-optimal, high latency, low refresh rate and cheap way to use VR.

          I can see the appeal, but they are far from comparable.

      • A very rough idea - no proper head tracking, and definetly no hand tracking - which is one of the best things about the Vive.

        • There is head tracking, however I'm not sure on the comparison your making.

        • -1

          @chyawala:

          There won't be proper head tracking, just dodgy head tracking.

        • @chyawala: The head tracking would be coming from the internal sensors of the device in use. Issue with that is it allows for drift in the base position. The external sensors for the Vive means absolute 1:1 tracking with no drift. It doesn't seem like a big thing but believe me it matters.

    • I've used this before, it was horrible. very laggy unless you have an absolute solid connection

  • -2

    Not worth it I gave mine away

    • +1

      You give your Vive away ?

      • -1

        To my sister who doesn't use it. I bought it when they first came out but the novelty wares out. I also had the Samsung one as well with the note 7 and same it gets boring after a while

        • PM'd 🎅

        • yeah it does, it had 0 launch titles, its solid as a sort of party/ group thing, especially when you hook 2 together

  • Back in stock and cheaper with CATCH20 code.
