New rental is NBN ready, but ISP doesn't see it?

Hello Ozbargain,

My partner and I are in the final stages of preparing to move. We are signing the lease this week to a brand new, NBN ready unit in Dutton Park, Brisbane.

According to NBNco, the unit is ready to go with a provider of my choice. In the list of providers, I found the one I preferred: myrepublic.

Unfortunately,on myrepublic's website, searching for my address doesn't return any results and I'm asked to leave my details to be kept in the loop about future NBN deployment to the area.

Most other providers find the address with no issues at all.

I am very keen on joining myrepublic's plans because they are unlimited at Tier 5 speeds, for $60 per month only. Bargain.

Is there anything I can do? I suspect it's myrepublic's search function that isn't working as intended, and not my new location that isn't eligible. I've noticed that many other websites have additional information such as building number, floor number and BOxxx unit prefilling correctly when searching.

Is it possible that some providers, although listed as being able to service my area, simply aren't allowed there? Are there any other decent NBN deals worth looking at at any tier but tier 1?

Thanks for the advise, as always…

You should call MyRepublic and see what they can do.

  • Does myrepublic allow adsl2 at your address? If yes then they automatically move you accross to nbn anyway. But plenty of reports from people in the same boat on whirlpool. Sign up with MR and wait for them to change to NBN or sign up with another provider on a monthly plan until it's available.

  • I will give you some advice and take it as you want
Myrepublic unlimited 100/40 is absolute garbage during peak hour in most POI's
Its a leech filled ISP with high contention

If you want my honest opinion no one comes close to Skymesh Speeds and reliability
this is a factual opinion based on my testing of numerous services over the last 18 months
Skymesh has come out on top time and time again
Telstra was second as they can afford the capacity increases

Of course your experience may vary but for $60 per month you're getting a luck of the draw service with high contention, lots of users and pretty poor experiences as outlined on many whirlpool threads

Is there any reason you're so adament on MyRepublic?

Also you may find they don't "service" your particular POI or location yet hence not being able to get their service until they are setup for your area

Personally though, Skymesh is the choice I recommend on the NBN.

Others beat me to it, there are thousands of threads advising people to steer clear, do the right thing and support "Australian" Business, Skymesh is one of the best out there and their support is second to none, they don't offer silly "unlimited" plans either which is absolutely pointless on the NBN, Yes they are more expensive but trust me, the headaches you'll get with these unlimited providers is ceetainly not worth the small increase in the payment per month

Unlimited plans means one thing, higher contention, more users joining, less CVC upgrades, less support per user as the complaints go through the roof, higher pings, slower speeds

Don't believe the hype, they are far from decent

1 months 24 day's connected and zero lag in game zero slow downs anytime of day.

Most liklely on a NON congested POI
One of the 1% who are probably in a better cvc area for "MyRepublic"

They are pretty much Junk anywhere else and whirlpool has numerous threads to back up my point about them

Skymesh reigns superior and I'm glad you get good speeds but you're a small minority that do

Most people with good connections wont bother to comment on whirlpool or there fb page.
you cant really say what your saying without knowing the number of good connections people have out there. your just seeing the bad connections just like every isp ever in history.

though i do agree ive seen nothing but good things from skymesh.

        • @Axelstrife:

Whilst I agree completely with that comment and you only ever hear the whinger posts on whirlpool I have first hand experience with a lot of different ISPs and the support processes etc, these all make up the final review scores

Most tier 5 unlimited ISP, offer 100/40 and about 20% actually achieve it during peak time

I do quite a fair bit of testing over the different technologies
Including Wireless / FTTP / FTTN and HFC and have a fair bit of experience with it.

I have found Skymesh to be consistent time and time again and any backhaul or congestion issues are attended to with 24 to 48 business hours

It took Myrepublic over 2 weeks to resolve a routing issue on my POI, unfortunately I rate my scores based on speed, customer service, peak / non peak congestion and pings

Myrepublic I will agree are a game changer to Australia, they do offer quite a good service where the NBN contention and take up is acceptable, Average speeds are based on multiple locations, unfortunately in most cases they don't live up to their wild claims, You are an example of a user with a good experience but the ratio is certainly not in their favour

You have been most likekly in an area with good CVC capcity, low contention and probably never had to deal with their support, give it 6 or 12 months, 1 month is not really a good example of a test tbh, contention and CVC changes wildly and the cheaper the ISP, the slower this capacity gets upgraded

Skymesh makes sure it has ample capacity and yeah they have had their fair share of issues like everyone else on the NBN but to be honest most of the issues are mostly on the NBNCo side when the poo hits the fan.

@shawncro 222: You are comparing much higher price isp to one which is a bottom tier.
i joined knowing support would suck.
i didn't expect these good speeds.

It does say "up to 100mbps" so anything above my previous tpg 25/5 at $69.99 is a plus.
Mostly i care about ping which is why i joined the gamer plan so that i can complain if something does happen to my ping at least.

Though from what ive seen most issues come from FTTN while FTTP seems fine (no idea if they service HFC or wireless)

You are right time will tell if the speed stays good i hope it does though lol.

    • Thanks for your feedback. I thought that NBN offered more stable speeds hence why I thought myrepublic was a great deal. I'll consider skymesh as well then!

Obtain the utility connection numbers from the developer or the building manager.

The building manager at my complex provide them to me (NBN, gas, electricity) so I just quoted them when i signed up via phone.

My NBN number starts with LOC followed by 12 digits.

    • Thanks, that's exactly the kind of tip I was looking for!

  • Did you try Optus ?

My understanding if Optus see your address, MyRebublic should see it.

    • Optus doesn't seem to see my address either. Is Optus reselling to myrepublic somehow?

  • Type your address into Finder NBN Tracker and it will tell you the Location ID. Example (using a random address in an NBN enabled area). Tell this to the ISP and see if they can find you that way.

    • Thanks! That's useful info!
