Shopping Square 8GB Microsd Card, Genuine or Fake?

I got this from ShoppingSquare, but it came in an envelope not in retail packaging, just in a plastic case that looks like it had also contained the microsd to sd card adapter which is now gone (DODGY!!!).

I am worried about the authenticity of the card itself because in all the pictures I have seen (even the ones on the SS website), there is a little ® on the right of the Sandisk logo. Mine doesn't have it.

Was wondering whether anyone else has got theirs and can compare with mine.

  • OEM packaging, perhaps?

I got mine today as well, just a small plastic box with barcode sticker reading TF-SAN-8G and a serial number of sorts.

I also don't see the ® symbol on the card itself, but I have 3 Sandisk SD cards, all bought from numerous sources, none of them have the R printed on it.

I strongly doubt that SSQ would have got hold of fake SD cards. They probably just bought them in bulk for dirt cheap prices.

  • Thanks. Makes me feel better. Sounds like you got the same plastic box as I did. If you look there's a big compartment in the box that fits an SD card. It looks to me like someone removed the adapter to maybe sell it separately?

You can call Sandisk to confirm authenticity.

  • Call sandisk with the serial number. From memory there is this usb program that help check authenticity, not sure if it works with SD cards…

I think h2testw is able to test not only USB flash drives but also SD cards…

  • the best way to tell if a memory card or stick is dodgy (fake capacity) is to load it up to almost its full capacity, remove it & wait 5 secs then re insert. Now see if all the data is still there and try to access some of the files, ie: photos, music etc…
Fakes will appear as they are loading the data but when you reinsert them a lot is missing or inaccessable.

    • im pretty sure genuines can do that too if you get a dodgy batch…

      • If a card is faulty naturally it would fail.

Nah, with fakes, say it says it has 32GB..
And it only has 2GB capacity except it reads as 32GB..
Only your newest 2GB files will work, everything else will be corrupt, they will still show up the icons but when you click on them, they're supposively corrupt.

          a lot clearer explanation here… :)

  • My guess is shopping square would get a bulk pack without packaging. i.e. when im at officeworks they have these display packs with 40 USB's all stuck in a foam base.
