Issues Ordering from Lenovo

Hi all,

I have recently ordered the Lenovo Thinkpad E570 Which I have paid for.

I have received an email asking me to call or confirm the purchase amount, to avoid unauthorized transactions.

Anyway i call the finance team through Lenovos contact number (ext 6)and he asks for 2 figures which have been deducted from my account, I explain only the purchase amount has been deducted after alot of umm'ing and aah'ing and awkward silences he then confirms my details and confirms my order has been released… I have also recently ordered an XPS from Dell and had no issues like this which leaves me wondering

1) is this normal?
2) should I be expecting a second charge?
3) has anybody else had this issue?

Thanks

  • Probably just something they do to prevent unauthorized transactions, which you seem to have resolved.

  • I had a lot of trouble ordering from ASUS. I ended up ordering from an actual shop instead. I don't know, but it seems like manufacturers always do weird stuff like this. Maybe most of their clients are businesses.

  • +1

Baysew is probably right - it'd be fraud protection.

Haven't dealt with Lenovo personally however I remember when opening a paypal account they used the same process. They'd withdraw like $0.04 and $0.07 or something from your supplied bank account, you tell them the exact amounts which means you're the owner of said account and then they refund it afterwards.

If the order has now been released I doubt the charges will come through.

    • Yeah i hope so, i thought paypal credited your account. I was a little worried as he said it would debit my account without my authority. He was also asking for recent transaction amounts which i have had to give recently to a bank after locking myself out of phone banking!

I think i am just being paranoid! Haha

  • I got my Yoga 910 through them. It took a good two weeks because they shipped it from China as a "custom build" (via their website).

I wanted to return it because their website doesn't offer the 4k screen, which is stupid because their website should be offering the best possible version. It took them about a week for each email reply. They wanted 20% "restocking fee" for this so I managed to sell it instead.

Probably wouldn't get anything from them again unless I checked the specs thoroughly. Looking at it in the store and then buying it online doesn't really work with these guys.

  • I bought one e570 with the $1049 deal on saturday night. I bought it with paypal. My payment is currently still under pending but I already got the invoice and tracking number from Lenovo. It is also on its way to Australia from Shanghai China. Dont know if its normal or not

    • Yeah it's "normal"

  • It normal I got 2 transactions
