Another gaming laptop recommendation thread

During some of the recent deals on gaming laptops, I've noticed comments about screens being rubbish, processor is old, screen is too small, etc etc.

I'm looking for a new, well spec's gaming laptop but I'm unsure which ones to consider. As for cost, about 4k should be enough.

My minimum requirements would be the following- GTX1070, 17" screen with G-sync higher than 60Hz, 6 gen CPU, 8GB RAM, internal blu-ray drive.

A company that's good about warranty too.

The concerns I would have are - difficult warranty, screen quality, running hot ie shorter life.

    running hot ie shorter life

    That isn't how it works.

    • Thanks. I thought the idea was to keep stuff cool

  • I suggest looking at the Metabox Prime P650HS-G
    http://www.kongcomputers.com/product-detail/gamers/metabox-p…

It's about $2800 with GTX 1070, 16GB RAM and the 1080p 120Hz matte screen option - add in extra SSD and/or HDD as your budget allows.

    • Yeah I saw those from a previous deal. Only thing really is they don't have an option for internal optical drives. I've never heard of them… Can anyone shed some light on them?

      • Optical drives? I'm sorry, are you from the past? :-) But seriously, who uses optical drives these days?

Metabox are one brand that's applied to a barebones unit. They're sold under many names; Sager and Clevo are 2 others that I know of. Metabox are pretty well known in the gaming space, do some searching to find reviews.

        Optical drive… Lol

They are gone the way of the dodo, optical drive bays take up too much precious space in a laptop design, this space would better fit other components like batteries, heat pipes or cooling fans in the unit.

Buy a USB optical drive if you really need one.
